How can I add words to the 8900 T9 dictionary?

I've read two or three posts regarding the addition of words to the T9 dictionary, but so far I have no results. I type out a word in multitap mode (Abc), and then select T9Word, and then space. Or, I can press space before selecting T9. But either way, the T9 just doesn't get it. For example, say I'm typing out the name "Ashley". If in T9 mode, I can type out "Ashle" and then it stops; it won't even let me type any more characters. I can then switch over to Abc mode and type in the 'y' to finish up the name but that doesn't save it to T9 either. Can someone very specifically explain the exact steps to getting a word like "Ashley" into the dictionary? Thanks.

ok, the way i do it (ill use internet jargon as example) was to type as i normally would in t9 up to the point of using the no included word:
"guess i will TTYL"...ttyl is NOT in the T9 so I type "guess I will " (with a space after "will") then switch to ABC mode and type "TTYL" and without space I switch back to T9 and it adds it to the dictionary...hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I tried this in the Memo area but I couldn't get it to work (I did exactly what you said though). What feature are you doing this in (i.e. Text Messaging, etc?) Do you have to turn the phone off and on again or something?

Maybe you can only add to the dictionary while typing in SMS mode and not in the memo or address book sections...just a thought....one LG phone I had (4400) could only add words to the t9 dictionary if you created a fake phone book entry and typed the words you wanted to add there.....weird but true

The way to add a word to your T9 dictionary is to be in T9 mode. When you get to a word that is not in the T9 dictionary, you switch to abc mode. Then type in the "new" word and press <space>. When you complete that, switch back to T9 mode - the "new" word will now be in the T9 dictionary.

Yeh, while writing text messages in Abc mode they will be added automatically to T9.
