nice pics!!
It's like a s300 but with a camera!!

Posted by: eyesonly6587

hows the external caller id?

Posted by: miche-rey

humm... is there a 850 band version for this phone??

Posted by: adobe

Can E600 use a custom ringtone in group tones dan sms tones?

Posted by: The Rex

any sample pics, vincent? i loved my old s300 and would get this phone as a back up only if the camera's good

Posted by: cy88

External caller id is great, pretty cool.

No 850 Band yet. It's released as tri band 900/1800/1900. You might need to wait for a carrier to release it.

E600 can use a group tone just like the S300/S200/E715

Pictures quality are just like E715, that's how i'd rate it

Please click below link for the full review of E600, it included E600 photo samples.

yeah this phone is like the s300's twin brother except born a little later and looks a bit better too. but anyone how to screen quality is compared to its little brothers and other phones like the moto v3,4,5 series, SE, etc?

Posted by: peachgirl

is the e600 easy to use? i'm thinking of switching my motorola v600 for this coz i really don't like the v600's user interface. any advice?

Posted by: Brinkster

Why the E 600 is better than the s300 or E700

First of all, the E600 has dual 65536 color LCD screens, while the s300 and e700 have only one (the other is 256 color).

Also the polyphony on the e600 is better: 64 chord polyphony (Yamaha MA-5 Chip) vs. 40 chord polyphony (Yamaha MA-3 Chip) of the s300/e700 (see www.smaf-yamaha.com for details).

It has a VGA camera just like the e700, which the s300 doesn't have. The difference between the e700 and the e600 is that the e600 can record movies (20 seconds max). Another advantage is that a photo can be assigned to a caller (photo caller id), a function that the e700 doesn't have (yet, maybe in the future with a new firmware version, but don't count it).

Just as the s300, but unlike the e700, ringtones can be assigned to caller groups (10 groups) A disadvantage is the antenna that isn't integrated in the phone (which is the fact on the e700), but that can be solved by buying a miniantenna for 10 dollars.

The e600 comes with two batteries (slim and normal), a feature the e700 doesn't have. And even though the e600has a bigger antenna the proportions of the e600 are smaller compared to the e700.

Also the quality of the ringtones (voice ringtones) seem better to me (no resonance). Also it has a nice standby light which the e700 doesn't have but the s300 does, but still I like the one on the e600 better. (7 different lights, can be controlled by a ringtone, just like the vibration).

It has slighty less functionality than the e700 but that's not too important for me. I like the e600 design better. I can know the difference because I own a e600 before my e700 so a comparison is easily made. If you guys have more questions about the e600 i would gladly be of any help...

Grtz

Posted by: Brinkster

Oh BMWFiles.. according to mobile-review.com the e600's screen is good, only the Motorala v300, 500 and 600 and the panasonic x70 are better. But since the panasonic is in a way better/more expensive segment the only competitors are the motorola's but i don't give a ×××× because the e600's screen STILL is crystal clear, especially in comparison with the e700 and s300.

Posted by: Brinkster

Peachgirl, Samsung e600 is very easy to use. Don't have experience with nokia's but in comparison with Nokia and Siemens this one is easier to use.

Posted by: ellecsor

Can an unlocked e600 be used with the Cingular service?

Posted by: Brinkster

What's a cingular service? And where do they use 850 MHz Band?
Maybe they are stupid questions, but I never heard of it.

Posted by: The Rex

the e600 supports 900/1800/1900 MHz... if unlocked, it will work with any provider that offers any of those frequencies. cingular operates on 1900

if you like the e600, also consider the e700/e715 (a lot cheaper)

Posted by: oic

How big can the ringtones be?

Posted by: space_oddity

would you consider the E600 a good replacement to Motos V600? I know it does not support as many functions but I'm not impressed with V600. Ive had a little play around with E600 and like its size, easy of use etc. I have the V200 and its very similar (which wanted to really get away from cos bit bored) but then again it also has the Vids dosent it.

Posted by: Brinkster

The ringtones can be uploaded if they're below 40k

Posted by: BMWFilms

anyone think the e600 will come to canada?

Posted by: altec18

E600 looks similar to the S300

Posted by: oic

Thanks Brinkster!

I also had to decide between the V600 and the E600. I liked the E600 much more:

v600:5mb
e600:12mb
v600: has no display outside
v600: Is much bigger and doesent look as good as the e600

Maybe you should also look: if you need bloototh and quadband take the V600 or if you need IR with triband take the e600.

I recommand you the e600!!

Posted by: braindead5400

the v600 does have an external display

Posted by: BMWFilms

i think the e600 is a slick lil phone...and for us on fido...we dun need 850 so the v600 is kind of useless to us...and bluetooth i dun use that much. i'd go for the e600

Posted by: altec18

fido should get samsung phones

Posted by: The Rex

there's a known issue with samsung phones and fido's ericsson infrastructure outside the west and major cities

Loads o' good comments on E600. I sent the V600 back because camera quality was awful. At mo I have SGH V200. To be honest got quite bored of it. I love the E600 style but how does it compare with the V200...much more functuality? Camera quality? Ringtones? Are menus identical? Can you transfer your picys to pc as with V200 does the phone come with software and USB cable? How does battery like compare with V200?

Hi guys,

I am hoping to buy an E600 this week, but I have a few Questions:

1. Can pictures/videos/voice recordings be sent to a computer through the infra-red?

2. Does the caller ID thing work on the outside screen?

3. Can it be used as an Infra-red modem for computer? And also, as a modem through an iPaq PDA infra-red connection?

4. How much memory does it actually have? I have read 12MB here, 5 elsewhere etc... help!

5. Can you get other pictures for the outside display than just those that come on it? (e.g. just the bubble things?)

6. Does the camera zoom like the E700 - fast. Or like the P400/V200 where you have to keep clicking?

7. How long can recorded videos be? And do they play back well on the phone? Or on PC?

Sorry to have so many questions but any answers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

ShMeE

1. pictures, yes... videos not yet, voice memo unknown
2. yes, call id both external and internal
3. PC yes, Ipag dunno
4. total of 12 MB, 600 kb for custom ringtones/wallpapers, 512 kb for Java apps, 5120 kB for photo's, 3072 kb for video's, 100 kb for voice memo's, rest is for names, telephonenumbers and adresses and organizer functions
5. Possible with a firmware update
6. It's camera is the same as the e700, so I would bet fast (?)
7. You can record up to 20 seconds of video, playback on phone is very good in comparison to other camcorder phones, pc playback unknown

Posted by: Shmee150

Thanks so much for the answers!!

It sounds great, I think I'll get one as soon as possible then!

Thanks,

ShMeE

Hi

I have now bought the E600. Does anybody know if its ok to connect to a pc using a data cable to transfer pics? If so can the same cable from the V200 be used? I have been advise that it is not advisable to use the V200 power adapter cos it stuffs up your phone

Posted by: Shmee150

Heh,

I think it is fine to use the cable, I have tried to us IR which only lets me send pics the other way, but I am sure it is possible.

Which brings me on to asking about that. I don't understand why the only thing I can do when the phone and computer are connected is to send pics to phone and look at my phonebook. No sending tones to phone, getting pics from phone etc...?? Any ideas any body?

Another thing is there any way to install JAVA games onto it from the computer? Or do I need to host them on a wap site and download from there?

Also, my phone turns off every now and then, is this a fault or is there something I am missing, doesn't happen when on mains, just with either battery I don't want to have to take it back, but will do if necessary.

Thanks in advance,

ShMeE

-What issue is that? Is there any article/post that describes the problem?

-Anyone else experience the problem with the phone turning off itself?

-Can I enter phonebook data from a PC prog and transfer it to the phone?

-Anyone know of a cheap/reliable place to get it in Vancouver and/or Toronto?

Thanks for the answers!

Posted by: The Rex

something about some samsungs not working well on fido's ericsson infrastructure. apparently they work just fine in regions where fido uses nortel hardware. fido uses nortel in the west and in major centres in the rest of canada

the main disadvantage for me though is not being able to send mms to anyone on the fido network.. not once did i succeed in trying to do so when i still had my e715.. i have of people sucessfully recieving mms thouhg but yeah from what i know, u cant send any mms on a samsung fone on fido..

Posted by: digitalsky

Thanks for the links rex-star.

one more question:

is the ext. TFT display always on? if so it would be quite power consuming. How does it work? (would it be on for several secs when u close the flip, then turn off? how does it reactivate?)

Thanks.

Posted by: BMWFilms

how's the battery life on the e600?

Posted by: space_oddity

Battery Life on E600 is quite poor. Seems pretty common in SGH phones... lol.

Approx talktime max 4 hrs, standby 200 hours

On the plus side, you get a spare slimline battery

Posted by: TheInterloper

the e600 has horrible outgoing sound quality! Sounds like your so far from the phone. Got a different phone after a few days b/c i couldnt take everyone saying, "what".

Posted by: ellecsor

Anyone know if the data cable for the S307 will work for the E600? Also, does the stubby antennae for the S307 fit on the E600?

it's the same cable commonly advertised as the S200, S300, V200, and E715. The charger is dual voltage, it will not 'stuff up your phone'

That is not true, the SGH-D410 works with Fido's MMS, it would be surprising that the SGH-E600 does not.

that was true in the past, usually because of users who had duplicate or non-existant IMEIs...Any phones after the SGH-E715 has no issues with the Fido network, Nortel or Ericsson.
