Nokia 9290 Communicator

Well, bought myself a Nokia 9290 yesterday. Played with it only for an hour or two just using the battery life present out of the box. I like it so far. Here are some observations:

The only drawback I see so far is size. It is bulky. Ive been used to small phones as I've had a Motorola V70, Sony Ericsson T68i etc. Not overly bulky but it will take some getting used to.

The keyboard is easy to type on although it gets a little trickier trying to type while holding the phone.

The color screen is awesome! Very bright and colorful. Easy to see.

I set up my contacts. That was very intuitive and easy. The phone is a feature whore. The manual is 2 inches thick (and its all English).

I set up the WAP services using the setting here quickly.

It also has straight internet access (yes, you can actually browse the normal internet just as if on a computer, albeit slowly) and I set that up fairly quickly also. It was hella cool seeing eBay's homepage load and look just like it does on my desktop PC.

I can look at porn on my cell phone now! YAY! ...... uh... did I say that out loud?

Now I gotta sell my T68i and HBH-20 Bluetooth headset. Will post more after playing longer.

Arnold:

I have had mine for a month now. You will like it even more as you get used to all the things it can do.

don't the webpages take like 8 minutes to load because its painfully slow dial up???

when i use dial up on my 8890 it literally takes 8 minutes to load ebay on my ipaq pocket pc.

No doubt about it, it's a painfully slow 9.6 dialup. It seems even slower to load all the html subscreens on a site like EBay.

However, when comparing speed to another true html screen. The only thing you have to compare it to is your PC. Of course its much slower than that.

I don't know about you, but if I am on the road and desparately need to get to an html (not WAP) site for info, I will settle for 4 -5 minutes to load complicated pages.

Remember WAP enabled cell phones can only get true page look up on WAP enabled sites. Over 90% of websites require true html to see the site. 9290 is the only machine of its size that I am aware of that does this.

worse what if your trying to bid on something?

The opening pages of EBay are the only ones that take a while.

Also, I use my 9290 mostly for business.

I don't we have a fast alternative to bid mobile on EBay.

They will tell you that you can bid on any internet enabled cellphone. This is technically true, however you get WAP enabled pages specifically designed by EBay that suck.

The 9290 gives you the same pages you get on ur home PC

Just curious what providers are offering service for this phone? I really want one of these phones, but can't seem to find a local provider that provides service for the Nokia 9290.
