Faceplate change for Dummies

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know that there are several detailed instructions on taking apart the slider.....I know......What I am asking is for instructions for just replacing the slider faceplate. Thats all. I unfortuately havent been blessed with the brain to use the already given instructions, but I think some other people who just want to change the faceplate would also greatly benefit from this as well. I have the tox screwdriver, but unfortuately dont have the antenna tool. So can anybody possibly give pictures, as well as text to describe this, step by step so that I dont break my cool phone?? Again I want to appolgize for having the knowledge of a 2nd grader when it comes down to taking stuff apart and putting it back together. Thanks ya'll

As far as I know you still have to take the whole phone apart in order to even change just the faceplate...precisely why I haven't done it yet.

well I read on some posts that you only have to do some of the steps. It would be greatly apprieciated if I could know which ones to do. My dang screen got really damaged at work, and I really need help to change it...so again...if anybody could help me out....I would be really thankfull.

....Let me just say, that if anybody can help me out, I promise that I will take detailed pictures and carefully document the whole process and put it on the web and link it to this forum. Then this will be forever buried, and nobody will have to ask this stupid question!!! Thanks

To just change the faceplate, you only have to do the steps noted below - use this link for reference...the only thing i'll say is BE CAREFUL...the insides of the phone are a little delicate.

http://kslider.homestead.com/takeapart.html

1. Remove the battery
2. Remove the 4 screws
3. Seperate the lower housing
4. Remove the main keyboard (don't have to seperate the brown cable, but have to be careful not to bend or scratch the cable)
5. Seperate the upper housing
6. Remove the navigation keypad

Alright, I just have to wait for my faceplate to come in the mail, and I will attempt this......hopefully I can do it!!! Then I will post the web address for everybody to look at once I load up the pictures. (If I can do it =P )

I'd just concentrate on being careful with the phone and don't worry about the pictures. The summary posted above is good, but it's really the entire takeapart instruction set (which has good pictures) minus removing the LCD and removing the earpiece speaker. You really have to go through the same steps to replace the full housing as you would to replace just the faceplate, with the exception of swapping the metal slide contacts... that's the only difference I can think of having done this procedure a few times. The faceplate just happens to be the last step in the process.

nice site yeah, it's not that hard. once you get the thign apart, instead of putting the stock one back on, just put the aftermarket one on
