Saw my 1st Treo 600 (Sprint) on a BART train (SF Bay Area) on my morning commute. I fell in love.
I'm on Cingular, and it seems none of the stores here have them. I must either wait, or buy an unlocked/unbranded one.
Treo 600/Cingular users, how does your RF perform? Great? Stinky?

using treo600 with tmo in ca (since we [tmo and cingular] share the same towers, i believe the RF should be (more or less) the same) and i love it. i had been waiting for it for so long. i bought this from palmOne website (unlocked, and unbranded). it worthed the time waiting at all.
you can download all kind of apps. RF is excellent. speaker phone is nice when i use it inhouse. love the mp3 ringtone, picture caller id, and the video caller id (via 3rd party software).
it is compact. it does not look like a pda (size).
you will love it.
palmone has retail store in SF. you should go to palmone website to check out.

Superfire,
Thanks for your input! My local Cingular store now says they have it. I wonder if it's any cheaper thru PalmOne?
Edit: Ow, it's $700 w/o new contract. BIG OW!
By the way- is there any way to turn off the screen's backlight and keep the LCD on, like you could on the older Palms? I don't mean dimming via the shift-P trick (which turns on the keyboard).

The Treo 600 is a great choice, has excellent RF and the perfect PDA/phone convergence device IMO. There are a couple of apps called TreoGuard and Treo Allegro that dim the backlight when the phone is in use...however there is no way (and i believe no app..i could be wrong) that turns off the backlight automatically. Check Treocentral.com, the best resource for Treo users..

I am somewhat concerned that I can't tell "at a glance" what my RF and battery status is.
Right now, my little monochrome phone can be left "open" and I can always see what's going on, if it's on my desk or on the dash of my car. With the Treo 600, I can't see how I can do that, unless I set the backlight and LCD to stay on all the time, killing the battery.
At least the tiny LED at the top blinks green at what I've seen to be a pretty rapid rate (once per second?) I think that's wonderful, since I really miss having blinking LED's on phones. Trouble is, it's so small, I can't imagine being able to see it under bright ambient lighting conditions.
So, that's why I'm curious:
1) Can the tiny LED at the top be seen under most conditions?
2) Any way the main screen's backlight can be switched off quickly, leaving the screen still on? (Or perhaps this really isn't necessary with the blinking LED...)
