BITPIM Connection Issue

Has anyone experienced the following issue, and if so how did you resolve it?

I just got an Audiovox 8900. After reading tons of threads in this forum I decided to get the data cable from Radio Shack and get rid of the Verison banner and add some .mp3 ringtones. I got the cable yesterday and was moving along nicely. Got the Verizon Banner gone, got some ringtones loaded. Just now I was trying to put on another ringtone and BITPIM (Version.62) is unable to connect to my phone and can't retrieve the filesystem info. I have tried to autodetect the com port (which was working fine, but now I get a "Failed to auto detect the port to use-I tried comport 5"[which is the correct port] error) and also tried to manually assign the com port in BITPIM, but get a "LG-vx4400 on com 5 : The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew" error. I have also tried re-installing the driver (FutureDial) for the cable, and have tried re-installing BITPIM. The only other things that I can think of is that the cable itself has failed, or something in the phone itself has failed. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Steve.

If I remember correctly, it is recommended to NOT use version .68 on the 8900.

Well, I have been playing around and I seem to be working again. Figured I would post what I did in case anyone else has a similiar problem. I un-installed the usb cable driver and bitpim, and re-booted my pc. I installed the latest version (ver.7-test 10) of bitpim. I re-installed the USB driver. I connected the cable to my phone and to the pc. Initially I received a long error when I tried to view the filesystem of my phone. I discovered that in this newer version of bitpim that when you go to Edit>Settings, there is a new box that allows you to change the phone type. I changed it to LG-VX4400 and I was able to connect again and view the file system. Still not sure why it stopped working with ver .62 as it was initially working fine. Back to loading mp3 ringtones onto my phone........
