Palm One has released a software update for the Sprint version of the Treo 600.

The features of the update are:

• The palmOne POP3 email client has been incorporated into the Sprint ROM. The client has been preconfigured for the Sprint PCS POP3 settings.

• The browser now supports playback of voice memos that might be received with incoming Picture Mail messages.

• The browser now supports playback of inline MIDI ringtones.

• The SMS application now supports Message Priority so that users can assign high or low priority to all outgoing messages. Additionally, all incoming messages now display high or low priority.

• The audio-quality reliability is enhanced.

• The palmOne car kit now is supported.

• Browser has been improved to better handle redirect links used in conjunction with the Sprint download service.

• Software now reflects the new name of our company - palmOne.

The update can be download here.

There is also a lengthy discussion going about the update over at Treo Central here.

I tried to configure the Sprintpcs email with the new treo update and I cant seem to get it to work...it comes back with an error that says my user name and pasword are wrong...do I use my vsiion information or the account information? I have tried all possible combinatons of the two and no luck.....Do you have to have the business feature to use this?....also for other email accounts where do you find the information (POP info) to set these up.......i know I'm rambling....any help would be appreciated!

POP3 mail servers are different for every provider.

Who is your e-mail provider? If you don't know your server names I suggest contacting your ISP and asking them.

I have updated with the Sprint 1.20 update and received the same error message. I have been on the phone with Sprint over the last 2 days -- their techies have no clue. I am awaiting a reply to an e-mail query. Will share if anything worthwhile is forthcoming.

I found out how to correctly configure MAIL after installing Update 1.20 on the SnapperMail site. The key issue is the last paragraph -- you must set up yet a 3rd password for MAIL to work under 'Settings and Preferences' on the SprintPCS website under your ONLINE Tools -- PCS Mail account.

SprintPCS
You need to set an EMAIL password for your Sprint account:
Go to Sprint's web site at www.sprintpcs.com.
Log onto your "My PCS" using your SprintPCS phone and password. Unless you have changed it, your password is the last four digits of your social security number.
Click on "My Personal Information" located along the left side of the screen.
Under "Passwords", click the "Modify" link to the right of "PCS Vision User Name". This will display your SprintPCS email address, and give you the option to change it if you wish. Write this address down for future reference, as you will need this information to setup MAIL on your handheld device. If you have made changes, click "Submit" to get back to the "My Personal Information" screen. If no changes were made, click "Cancel" to get back to the "My Personal Information" screen.
Click on the "Modify" link to the right of "PCS Vision Password", just under "PCS Vision User Name".
Follow the on-screen prompts to enter a new password. Note that you will need to have your phone on and in a coverage area for the password to be reset on your phone. Write down your new password for future reference, as you will need this information to setup SnapperMail on your handheld device.

The SprintPCS Account settings under Server (Edit Accounts | Server), are filled in by the Update:
POP3 Server: pop.sprintpcs.com
Username: [your Sprint username†]
Password: [your EMAIL password you set in step 1 above]

SMTP Server: smtp.sprintpcs.com
Username: [your Sprint username†]
Password: [your EMAIL password you set in step 1 above]

† - Enter the portion of your SprintPCS Vision email address before the "@" here. So, if your address is myname@sprintpcs.com, your username would be myname. Some users have reported that entering only the username part does not work. If it does not work for you, please try entering your entire SprintPCS Vision email address.

Alternate information: Sprint complicates things by having three passwords - the account management password, the Vision password, and the e-mail password. This may help you: On the Sprint PCS web site, there is a 'Preferences' link by the compose msg function. Under the preferences, you can set up an e-mail password. THIS is the password that is assigned to the SMTP and POP servers in SprintPCS Vision.

My MAIL now works wonderfully on my Treo 600.

Good luck!
