How can i select network type in s40?

I try to select network type in the menu
"network selection", siemens website said it have choices of "network type" to select it but in my phone it does not exist. Would anyone tell me why?
Is it the firmware version too old?

Settings/Network selection/Network types
The menu item is version independend. If it is not there then it was disabled by your provider. In this case a SW update won't help.

Try a SIM from another provider.

1st unlock it
or enable international roaming (it worked on voicestresm it showed 6 gsm networks in the uk)
