Doh!! 8900 as my pocket-watch (vzw)

Thanks to all the great posters on this forum. I've gotten a bunch of super info. I read the posts about the many, many complaints about the CDM8900. All valid. However, my biggest problem isn't listed.
A few years ago, I stopped wearing a wrist-watch. What's the point when you always have your cell phone? Now, the cell phone doesn't always work (the building I work in has no cell service inside - not the phone's fault - no cellphone works), but at least I can still use it to tell the time. Right? Wrong! With the 8900, when it can't get a signal you get the "Searching System" or "Power Save" screens, including on the subLCD. Can't see the time at all. The "quickest" way I've found to see the time is MENU 9,1,1 ENTER. The default time in the "Add New Plan" is the current time. What an annoyance. Anyone know a quicker way to force the time onto the screen, or a hack?

Most Verizon phones do not show time if you dont have service. I don't know if you've noticed, but you never had to set your time in the beginning. You can only view the time if you have signal.

I have yet to find a place I cannot get signal with my vzw 8900.... ok, flame away! lol....
seriously though, that is crappy. with all the moto phones I had (was a die hard moto fan til the piece of #$%& t720) the time always stayed, signal or not. that is, unless you turned the phone off, and then back on, and did nnot have digital coverage...
I too have read many, many complaints about the 8900 and havn't seen my biggest complaint: The down-arrow on the direction pad is way too small, I have a hard time not hitting the "ok" button while trying to scroll down. my hitch hiker thumbs are giant, and I have to use my thumbnail!?!?
(stupid being vzw) lol....

I'm not even sure the 8900 can keep time. I think it just recieves the time directly from the satellite, and just changes its time when the satellite time changes. That woudl be the only reason I can think of that would explain this.

easiet way
GO to WORLD CLOCK.... and there the time is saved since last synchronized with your service provider

I had an older audiovox phone, the 9155x or something. It would not keep the time between power but as soon as you received a digital signal, it would set the time, and increment it even if you lost your signal. It didn't remove the time from the display while it searched for a signal.
I have exactly the same problem you have now or did with my 8600. I stopped wearing a watch for the same reason. I could not get a signal in the building where I worked. Luckily, I moved buildings and can get a couple bars now, but it was pretty frustrating. I feel for ya.
