I hope someone can help me...
Using Bit Pim, I tried to change the 'eri' files to display something else. Now I get a boring message stating: "User data is being restored.....[4]" and it just keeps turning on and off. I have to take the battery out to keep it off! To top it off, my PC no longer knows what the phone (object connected via USB) is. Any assistance would be appreciated!!

I hate to tell you this, but there's no solution. Bring the phone to your carrier and get it replaced...sorry.

has anyone ever taken their phone to verizon after screwing it up and gotten a new one?
I think I pay a certain monthly fee for phone insurance, do you think they would replace mine if I ruin it? Because I want to buy a data cable and replace the eri file, but I don't want to be without a phone.. I can't afford to pay full price for another 8900.

ya just goo tell em, the phone keeps freezing, they'll think its a glitch and give you another one if they desperately need customers
the phones dont cost much, its the service where they make their money
if you have phone insurance, then youll be able to get one for sure, if not blame the phone, and act like someone who doesnt know much about phones

so, the thing is.. I'm really nervous about getting a data cable and trying to get the freakin banner off my phone because I don't want to ruin it.
Provided I have phone insurance, do you think I should try?
I just reaaally don't want to end up without a phone, or almost even worse than not having a phone, going back to my motorola v120 *cringe*

Thanks for your responses...
Here's the deal. Even before I saw KPT's response, I went down to my local VW store and explained "I was using an Outlook sync software and cable which had worked fine before, and it must have 'just corrupted a file or something'" (wink-wink). They couldn't get it to do anything at all! They even replaced a board!
Anyway, I walked out with my battery in a new condition, refurb'd phone with nothing on it.
What did I learn...Hmmm...
1) Follow the directions of those who have done good and bad things to their phone ( I am now one of the latter).
2) Even though a phone connects to a PC like another 'drive', It isn't! Once it's 'hosed' up the PC doesn't recognize it anymore and you CANNOT restore that nice back-up file-tree you saved. You just as scr**'d as a $10 wh... Well, you know.
3) Don't mess with stuff people from #1 haven't messed with unless you are willing to PAY for a mistake! I lucked out!
My new quote: "If ya' don't know what you're doin'...Don't be doin' !! ...unless you can afford it of course!"
