1st, some helpful info:

When and if you try BitPim, and you cannot get the auto feature to recognize the COM, BitPim advises you to type in the com port. What needs to be typed in is "COMx" the x is a variable. DO NOT just type 4 or 3. This will not work, for example, you must type the name which is "COM4" (without the quotes).

To this day and after much time on Howard Forums and the BitPim users thread with a developer, I still seem to have an issue with regards to my computers and the serial connection to BitPim. I do believe its driver related and BitPim. I mention computers, because I have attempted this on three Wintel boxes with no avail.

Out of all the threads regarding the use of BitPim with the Slider, it's a 50/50 split as to whether or not it's going to work. The pattern of the threads is mostly trial and error and we all seem to be throwing up posts all over Howard Forums. Maybe we can get a forum just on this issue alone so it can be easily searched and learned from.

Here is my current state with BitPim and my Slider:

Process of elimination: I know that my USB Kyocera Data Cable is functional because I am able to connect to my Slider with the Kyocera Desktop software. (Before anyone threads in, I have thoroughly removed all evidence of that software before installing BitPim). So, the USB cable and the driver get noticed by WINXP and it grabs an available port. One would think they could easily get the port to recognize the Slider through BitPim .06 and or .07-Test. This is based on the fact that the Kyocera Desktop application worked. Not so. Why? Go figure.

Whether one owns the Kyocera USB Data Cable or the FutureDial cable it uses the same Prolific driver, i.e. ser2pl.sys. There are two versions of the ser2pl.sys driver. One is dated back in 2002 and the other is dated 2003. I'd like to know the driver name of those that get theirs to work. Can someone inform us unfortunate ones with this information?

According to the developers at BitPim, and after sending them my LOG files, they say it's a serial issue and they also confirm that the USB cable is not as stable as using the Serial cable. Reason is the driver. I will continue to try to get this to work. It has to work!

I too have had trouble with BitPim...as someone on here has told me, BitPim is not meant to be used with our Sliders...so trial and error is to be expected.

Download and try using the program GAGIN

Personally I do not like to use this program, but for me...it sees my Slider right away as opposed BitPim which doesn't. But what I have found is that when I launch Gagin first, allow it to "see" my slider, and then go into and launch BitPim. BitPim then "see's" my Slider always.

Just a suggestion.
