VX6000 & Mac OS X data transfer??

OK, I have read many, many threads on the subject of Bitpim, the VX6000, and different charger cables. I have two different cables and have installed Bitpim into Panther and nothing works. Bitpim doesn't see the phone and the phone doesn't see the computer.
The steps on the Bitpim site don't help at all. Does anyone have this working? Does anyone know of a good tutorial online with step-by-step instructions. I know someone has already went through this pain somewhere
