Siemens S40 Data Link to PC

Hi,

I just purchased a Siemens S40 and am trying to get the XTND Viewer/Connect to work. I have the included data cable (one that plugs into a modem jack and also dubs as the power cord). I also have access to the IR port.

I have installed all the software (XTND Viewer and Connect) as well as the modem software. When I use the IR port the computer "sees" the phone.

I am just trying to get the XTND Viewer to work for now but it seems to keep gives me a variety of errors:

"Can't reset the phone. Please make sure the phone is connected."
"Can't write the Service Center Address..."

My steps are:

1. Connect the phone via phone jack into modem.
2. Start XTND Viewer

the port is selected correctly and there is no entry in the "Service Center Address" box.

Can someone help me get this working?

THANKS!

Do you have an S40 SW version higher than 2.9.0?

I think so,

when I do the *#06# it gives me:

SW-VERSION
7.0.0

Do I need to flash to 9.0.0? I am going to search to see how to do that right now.

THANKS FOR WORKING ON THIS FOR ME!

Okay,

I have exhausted almost all resources I know of and need help. I think I have been making a big mistake. The link cable that came with the phone (that has a phone jack at one) CAN NOT be used as a data link cable, right?

So now I am trying to sync via the IR port. I am running XP on a Sony Laptop. The IR port recognizes the phone because I am cable to make it dial a number as a modem (still haven't to actually got it to connect... I use bellsouth ISP). It gives me a "Can not open port error...)

I installed a virtual com port and set up the XTND Viewer to COM6 as my virtual port is set to. Same error.

I don't have the CDO.dll file... I have a CDOSYS.dll file ver 6.x.

I have the latest downloads of XTND Connect/Viewer from Siemens.

any ideas? thanks!

Okay, I have been messing with this for way too long. I think I have read every post in this forum and a few others. Here is what I have got:

I DID get the phone to connect to my laptop via IR to as a modem and connect to the Internet after using the Cingular's Data Numbers.

I still can not get the XTEND Viewer/Connect to work. I have installed iRComm on every port that is available and not available. I have the latest software from Siemens (I even tried to old software that shipped). My phone is ver 7. I am running WinXP.

My IR port is COM5. I am not sure if iRComm should point to COM5 or am I suppose to adjust the Bios so that IR points to a virtual COM such as COM6. If so, how do you do that? When I go into my bios, the i/o port address looks like hex numbers. How do I know which one it is suppose to be. Specifically it gives me:

238h-23fh
2e8h-2efh
2f8h-2ffh
33sf-33fh
3e8h-3efh
3f8h-3ffh

Then, am I suppose to go into the phone and select the "Sync + Data" option, let the computer register the IR link and open the Xtend Viewer.

The error I am getting is a "Port not being able to be open."

I would GREATLY appreciate if someone could help me with this. I don't know if I am just missing something simple.

THANKS!

Try the viewer with any possible COM port selected. Sometimes that helps.
Does XTND Connect PC work?

Frank

Hey,

I tried all COM ports and still the same error: "Unable to open port." I think I have iRComm installed right b/c I tested through my palmpilot and Hotsynced through the virtual port. (I set the iRcomm virtual port on COM9, I then changed the Hotsync port to COM9 and deselected the IR box... when I went to hotsync... it was perfect).

The Xtnd Connect does not work either. It gives me an "invalid argument" error.

Am I suppose to have something in the Network Address Box?

THANKS!

Exit all other apps (like Hotsync) that occupy the COM port while being idle!

Frank

Yes I did do that. I also did check out your other forum but I had to "loosely" translate it so I didn't quite get that much info.

Thanks for helping me.

Hm. Anyway, it appears to be a problem with your PC, not with your S40. Since I'm not an XP user there's nothing more I can do for you. Good luck!

Thanks anyway. The cable that came with the phone (one with a phone jack at the end) that isn't a data cable is it? For example, I can't plug it into my modem jack and select COM1?

No. The apps work only with a 9 pin RS232 (COM) cable.

the cable you have that has a "phone jack" at one end is NOT a data cable. the phone jack you're describing plugs into the charger. the real data cable has a serial 9-pin connect on one end.
