need help on deciding which phone to buy....any suggestions?
which one would u go with?...and why?
Posted by: Player1
the nokia for sure
why? the S40 menu is very hard to get used to.....
the screen on the S40 is junk compared to the nokia...
the Nokia has tons more features.
the Nokia is smaller
the S40 is triband though....u probably don't care about that anyways.

i have an 8290 and s40. the 8390 is basically the same as the 8290 in features as the the 8390 minus the web browser. The s40 takes a bit to get used to, weird thing is that the butons are kinda like inverse nokia (ex to lock it you press right button then pound), many people give it bad reps because they haven't looked at the quickstart guide which tells you all the short cuts of going in and out of the many menus. Yeah it does have alot of menus and options, you can't upload an operator logo but you can change the the appearance of the bars for battery and service. The screen is bigger and easier to use than the nokia one. It's is triband and i recommend getting it unlocked, really comes in handy when you travel. The calendar is much better, and so is the adress book. The adress book has plain numbers which is what nokia stores on and a real adress book that actually stores street adresses, email, 5 phone numbers etc. I has no games. I has a clock screen saver feature which is nice, considering the bigger screen you don't need to stare at it to see the time. SMS is easier because the s40 has 3 ways of entering text. basically t9,push and then again for the letter, and push the number then another number for the key. I found this one easier because you can send sms faster and you wont mess up on the character keys, also they appear pretty big. If the language you use in when you travel, the s40 feautures alot of languages and all their characters. I has pc sync out of the box if you have ir or you need the cable. If you get the 8390 you get the ir but no software with it, there is no nokia certified cable. The s40 also has a voice recorder which is handy. I prefer using the s40 not because of all the features but because it has a very low radiation rating.

Did you get the S40 through Verizon or somewhere else? It is not listed on their website.
Posted by: t2k3
no i didn't. Verizon is a CDMA provider, S40 is gsm. I didn't get my s40 through any provider although cingulair offerts them cheap. I use it on voice stream. The price if i signed a contract or if i bought the phone alone was 30 less if i signed so i got with no contract phone. It came unlocked ordered with no branding what so ever.

Hmm.
I would prefer the 8390 any day.

8390 also has a low resolution screen, just depends if you want features or appearance. The s40 looks very nice at night, it all lights up blue, there's only 3 or 4 face plates though.

S40 is fantastic.
I liked the menus, then again, i've used siemens phones before. The audio quality is nice, too.
8390 didn't impress me.

I would take the Siemens S40 over the Nokia because the Siemens is a triband

well the Nokia has simple menus to navigate, bright backlight the perfect fun phone.the s40 is a true world phone, the menus are alittle complex at first but you get use to it.one bad thing is the rubbery keypads.you decide, which fits your needs
