cable questions for the LG VX6000

trying to get the mp3 ringtones thing to work.

today, i finally get the cable i ordered from cellularaccessory.com. The order sheet says 5450 USB Data Cable.

looking at some of these threads i see that apparently the "right" cable has a bump in the middle and a USB-Serial connection. My cable is just straight USB, smooth cable with no bumps. What is wrong with a cable like that?

i couldn't get BitPM to recognize my phone after installing drivers and i had to go to work so i didn't have time to fidget with it to see what was wrong. I'm downloading a new set of drivers which hopefully will work, but my question is will the cable i have affect me somehow? Should I try to return the cable and get the one with the connection in the middle?

running windows xp, i install the drivers.

it says turn on phone and plug in cable now.

i do this and windows says detects qualcomm something or other. but it can't find drivers for it. what should i do?

i tried navigating it to look in the folder where i have the usb drivers off the futuredial site but it says no drivers found in that folder.

If you have the straight usb cable that is NOT the future dial one you can get the drivers right on the lg vx 6000 product page at us.lge.com:
http://us.lge.com/Product/proddetai...categoryId=0401

They work great for me with bitpim. The usb device that my computer found before installing the drivers was also a Qualcomm something or other. Again these drivers are only if you have the generic straight-through usb cable with no bumps.
