Changing carriers

My 2 yr contract ends on June 4. I want to port my phone #, but I don't want to pay an ETF. Does this mean that I have to wait until AFTER June 4 to port...in other words will I have to pay my current carrier for an extra month [June 4 - July 3]?

On June 3 and earlier there WOULD BE an early termination fee
On June 5 and after there would be NO early termination fee
On June 4 ?????

But will I still be able to keep my old # if I don't pay for the next month (June 4 - July 3)?

Most carriers in Canada will pro-rate your service (you use one day of the month they will only charge you for one day), not sure about the US...
