I just received a 4500 and i hooked it up to bitpim .07/10 and it can not connect via auto detect or if i set it to a different com port. the cable is working fine. I wanted to know if i need curitel drivers or something like that to enter the phones file system. I would appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction. Bitpim itself isn't working so i figured i need drivers for the phone. i am not sure.
thanks in advance

Which cable are you using?
there should be a com port listed in device manager if its working correctly. Even without a phone plugged in.
If you are using the VX-6000 cable, it uses a different USB>serial chip and for what ever reason will not detect a 4500 (or 4600 or 3200 for that matter) when plugged into the phone, so it wont go active, so windows never sees the port.
The only drivers you need are the ones for the cable itself.

First, make sure the phone settings are correct.
Go to Menu-9-6-2 and make sure you have selected RS-232.
Then go to Menu-9-6-3 and make sure you have selected 115200.
Next, unplug the USB from the computer, wait 30 seconds, and replug it to re-register it.
Also, be aware that you sometimes have to try to "Get Phone Data" several times before the connection works. I almost always have to do this at least twice to get a connection.
Good luck.

The cable that i am using is one i bought off of ebay for my cdm-8900. I asked on here before if it would work and everyone said yes. The reason being is it is a usb cable with the cross over box in the middle of the cable. eliminating the rs-232 connection. I am not trying to use the phone for a modem connection but rather ringtones and pictures etc. the only drivers i had for the cable were curitel drivers and i was successful at getting data off the 8900.
thanks

You still must enable the RS232 port on your phone even with the converter cable. You've probably done that, but I thought I should make sure you know that.
Good luck.

thanks for replying. No, i didn't set it for the rs232. i did go into menu and hi 0, then hit the service code and i changed it to 11500. But, i don't see where the rs-232 option is. Is it in the wap settings or something? Sorry, this is the first time i had a phone that you had to change something for the cable to work. I know how to do wap as i had that on my 4400. but i just received this 4500 on the weekend... Making the cable work would make this the best phone i have had thus far.
thanks for helping out

nevermind, i figured out how to change the settings. I thought they were in the service menu with all the sw and hw tests. they were both set to rs232 and the proper baud rate. So, i should be able to hook it up to bitpim and work? the question i have is that i dont need any drivers for my usb cable?

You do need a driver in order for your cable to communicate with your computer.
There is no special driver to use with bitpim, just the driver that works with your specific cable and the 4500.

If you don't have a driver for your cable and 4500, you might try the one in the files section at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LGVX4500/. You'll also find lots of good information about using your 4500 and about using bitpim with it at that site.
You'll have to register in order to access that site, but it is free.
I don't know if that driver will work with your cable, but it's worth a shot.

thanks for the information. there is alot of info on that site. I did join. The problem lies within the cable. It was originally working on an 8900. Eventhough it fits and has the patch or converter in the middle, the phone and computer won't recognize it. I will just sell this one and get the one that is designated for the 4500. thanks for your help. i am glad i got the 4500 because with the 8900 bitpim was limited and i didnt like to use get it now for ringers or vzw pix.
thanks
