I got a new h ousing along with "T5" screw driver. I used the T5 to remove the first four screws. But for the 2nd set of 4 screws (on the back of the display piece), the T5 does not fit!
Does anybody know what I should use for it? It seems smaller, may be a T6 screw driver?
Please help, any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

You need a T2.
Good luck finding one!
I found that the SMALLEST precision flat head screw driver I could find did the trick on mine.

Thanks for the reply!
If you're very SURE that a T2 will fit, then I'll just buy it from this place : http://www.lara.com/?keywords=-T02
Unless you have other recommandations for buying a T2 screwdriver?
Thanks!!

kenc,
Did you buy your housing off of ebay, from a seller named kpcom8?
I've got one on the way from him and have been wondering about the torx screwdriver included.
Posted by: autocreeper
I'm about 99% sure it is a T2 - I haven't done it in a while though.
Search for fixing keys on the SL56 or something like that - someone posted a step-by-step for taking it apart - that should tell you the torx you need.
But I'm pretty sure it is a T2

Thanks autocreeper.
Yes it was from kpcom8. For the cheap price they are ok housings. I got the blue one and it looks pretty nice. But haven't been able to install it even with the instructions, because kpcom8 will ONLY give you the T5 screw drivers.
However to my understanding, and thanks to autocreeper's tips, you will ALSO need a T2 Screw driver, which I'm trying to get right now.

I bought the "blue" one from him too... but it looks purple, and really cheaply painted. Can you post a pic of what you got, kenc?

T2?? everything ive read up til now has never even mentioned that!! ugh... yet another thing to order..
in fact, this website here: http://www.bongowireless.com/downloads/ only mentions a Torx 6 screwdriver.. not Torx 5...

I bought a black and a "blue" from him.

Yes it does look like purple-blue. and looks like a toy, the black is much nicer
But for $5.00 USD (that's how much I paid for each set) we can't complain about quality.
The second set of instructions is not for swtiching housing, but for tightening up the sliding action, therefore it does not require the T2 screwdrivers I suppose.

ah, that's right there is a second set of screws... hurumph.. oh well, im glad to hear the black housing is nice cuz i just ordered one today..
thanks for the pics..

My black housing arrived this morning. Included one Torx screwdriver as promised. It doesn't look so great though. Low-quality paint job, new faceplate color doesn't match existing softkey color, silver stripe on the back is just a mis-aligned paper sticker. It's true that it's not bad for the price, but...uughh.
I'm not going to use it. It would make my not-even-close to-cheap phone look like a crappy WalMart toy. Attractive grey is better than unattractive black.
Anybody wanna buy an ugly case for their beautiful sl56?
Posted by: kloan
that's bad news.. it's not great even for the price then.. what a waste of money!! ××××, that really really sucks... silver sticker, how cheap is that! i wonder if they're all like that..

Mine has no sticker and they look ok

im confused.. in that pic they do look ok, the silver strip doesnt look like a sticker, but is it? also, is it the complete housing or just the front and back??
Posted by: splat
It's the complete housing. No keypad or softbuttons though if that's what you mean. The silver strip is just a sticker on the case I got, and it isn't even aligned with the indentation in the case for it. I guess the strip on the oem case is a sticker of sorts too, but it's thicker and textured.
I think what gives these cases their chintzy look (IMO anyway) is that they are spray-painted rather than being molded in plastic of the intended color. It just looks cheaper than the oem case, and when it gets scratched the original beige plastic color will show through.

Ah, I see. You'd think it'd be cheaper to mold the coloured plastic as opposed to spray painting.. fewer steps in the manufacturing process.
Has anyone tried doing the swap yet? Cuz I was in a tool store today and the guy showed me a Torx 3 (he was out of Torx 2) and it was TINY! I have a really hard time believing that they would use such tiny screws... can anyone confirm that it does in fact need a Torx 2 for the second set of screws?

Oh man, I've been looking for a document like this for the S55/56/57. I'm having so much trouble getting the IRda window out of the original housing as well as the side button contacts. Do you know if a pdf. like this exists for my phone?
