Siemens S40 = poor reception?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The only feed back I've gotten on the S40 is that compared to most makes, is that it has not so hot reception and the fact that it lacks a USB port makes this model phone nothing less than inadequate. Anybody have any positive comments about this phone?

I don't agree at all. . . I've had a great experience with my S40. Reception is just fine for me. You should go with a phone with at least the 5.0.0 firmware though. Anything earlier is rather buggy.

Hey Johhny...

I just posted a response to another post about the same issue. And let me tell you that this phone is great. It has let me get rid of my PDA and still have my phone numbers with me. And RF is excellent...

Hey Guys,

Remember, reception is also carrier dependent. My S40 is not bad on Rogers but brilliant on Fido.

Best example was my T68m which had great reception using Fido, but was COMPLETELY unacceptable when roaming on Cingular in LA.

I think Siemens S40 works very well with Rogers GSM. Rogers S40 has firmware 7.0.0

Of the s40's Ive used over the past year, I had better luck with fido and cityphone than of rogers.....

I like em, good reliable phones!!

I love the look, even though it was a Bosch design.

Reception really also depends on the quality of the network you're on. I never get great reception in LA with my Siemens S40 but it is much better (still not great) with my Motorola V3682.

Basically I think the Cingular network sucks. My friends on Verizon and Sprint always have a good signal while I'm always "searching..."

Wow, you finally started to post!! lol!!

Millwoods is bad with the s40, been there, done that.

Should be ok where you live, but south and east side are going to be iffy!
Just like a lot of riverbend.

Millwoods on the S40 is ok. U of A sux *** just like rogers' tdma coverage. riverbend is generally good, there's a dead zone somehwere in brookview. whitemud eastbound just before the terwilligar exit seems to ahve a deadzone aswell.. havent explored much more of edmonton yet with the s40

U of A is bad with ANY provider!

Ok, i've used the s40 alot, in the States gsm networks suck compared to europe, the reception on the s40 in the UK was excellet more like a land line, same in Romania. In New York ever since cingulair moved in and voicestream upgraded, reception has improved alot. AS with any gsm phone get it unlocked so if you find a provider unsadisfactory just change to another and no contracts. I've used cingulair, voicestream, connex, orange and vodaphone on my s40. Also in Europe you can switch networks with the s40, wish they did that so i can switch between cingulair and voicestream. I shows the coverage strength on all the networks if u put it in manual mode and you choose.
