I inverted the LCD on my GD55

Well, I finally bit the bullet and did it. I was a little hesitant at first, and upon getting into it, I had good reason to be!

I did this once before on an old nokia that was no longer activated. The phone was just about broken, however the screen still worked so I figured, what the hell. I did it and it turned out well.

I got the polorized film from an old calculator lcd. I then opened the gd55 to get at the lcd. This is the easy part.

The tough part is getting the film off the lcd without breaking it. Now this isn't particularly difficult however the lcd is attached to a RIBBON CABLE that is SOLDERED to the mainboard!!! Not removable like the nokia I did years ago. This means if I break the lcd, im screwed. I'll have to send it in for service. You can buy replacement lcd modules on ebay however I sure hope your a master at soldering!!!

Anyhow, I VERY carefully pry up the film w/ a razor blade and work it back and forth till i can get my thunb under it and pull it that way.

Removing the glue is a pain but has to be done, otherwise you'll see it always on the screen, or it will make the screen appear fuzzy. No you can't reuse it.

I cut the new piece of film to fit, placed the metal shield back over the lcd module and put the phone back together.

On the semi-amature scale I would give this a 9 (10 hardest). Is it worth the trouble...Yes! Is it worth ruining your phone and costing lots to fix it and being weeks without it while it's getting fixed....HELL NO!!

One thing to note, since I reused the film from the calculator, it wasn't perfectly smooth. It had a minor crease line and some wrinkles in it. It isn't very noticible unless a light is shining right on the screen. They dissapear when the backlighting comes on.

Next on the menu, white leds....
