Hey, I've got a Nokia 3300 as well (as you can see).

Anyway, it supports 2 formats MP3 and AAC (which is the format that is used for iPods and such, also the format in which it records from an external source or from the radio).

I have compared the two, and there's not a whole lot of difference in audio quality, but AAC is slightly bigger, so maybe it's slightly higher quality. I dunno.

The one other solution I can think of that you could try is to find a Java application that will play other formats (i.e. Ogg Vorbis, which many praise as a better alternative to MP3), but I don't know of any.

If you find some, post links to 'em here! I'd want them too! :P

Good luck!

ok guys here is the deal. there is no java app that will play any type of ogg file for any series 40 phone. (3300) As for the file size of an mp3, you can use an encoder program that will let you re-encode the file to a smaller or bigger size. making the mp3 smaller, most of the time its quality goes to hell. but the good thing about the 3300's mp3 player is that even though the files are small and the quality are not the greatest, it plays very well. some songs that i have play better on my 3300, than my computer. the encoder program is very good and is free. at least some of them are. i have one thats free and works well. If you want this program, email me and let me know what it is that you want, and ill send it to ya. ihave a 3300 and i aslo have many pic's, apps;games and ringers, so if u wANT THEM, LET ME KNOW.

and as for acc files, they do not work as well as mp3's on the 3300. and they are alot bigger as well. the quality is not a factor between the two.

have you tried converting to MP3Pro? my MP3 player supports MP3Pro, they are still .mp3 files but they are just encoded different and the quality really isnt reduced. the best way i have found to convert them is through musicmatch jukebox (even though i personally hate the software other than converting and tagging files). if it works, somebody let me know because i am thinking about getting a 3300

That's the way to go... when you (re)encode the MP3, just choose a lower bit-rate and the file will become smaller.
You have to choose the best compromise btw. file size and audio quality (according to your needs).
MP3Pro is good, but does the 3300 support it?

I heard MP3pro is supported by 3300 but please dont take me for sure as i have only heard never tried practically.

mp3pro is not supported by the 3300. at least with the firmware versions that are out now. maybe in the future.

really? i tried last night and i couldn't get the 3300 to read mp3pro.....but it does seem to love aac better than mp3 so i converted to aac and it saved me HALF the room. now i have 63 songs on a 128 mmc instead of 38. really cool.
