Is there any way to make them longer, or better yet have a reminder alert for unread SMSs?? (perhaps a Java app??)

if you want a longer one, you will need to upload a longer tone to your phone.

i don't know anything about any reminders though.

Hmm thanks - after you wrote this I poked around a bit - ya know the manual leaves a bit too be desired! I've now changed the volume and ringtone associated with pages. Thanks for your help!
