Padlock symbol

Hey
I hav a small query: On my girlfriends old phone (3510i) and her new phone (3200) and my current phone (5100) we have encountered a small padlock symbol appearing to the left of the abc icon whilst writing a text. It goes away after a while (a few seconds on my phone, more for my girlfriends') and doesn't seem to have any effect. Does anyone know what its for?

Voice Encryption, not to clear as to what it is though. I had that same thing come up on my Nokia 3595(3510i uk) and contacted Nokia about that. Hope it helps
