How do I get my laptop to recognize the modem when connecting my Siemens A56 cell phone with a USB data cable? I have downloaded the drivers, I think and the program does not detect a modem....

I haven't tried this feature yet, but have you enabled your modem? In Menu/Setup/Connectivity/Fax/data mod. (modem), to
Rec Fax/data, click change to check box, this enables modem.
While enabled like this, you'll notice battery indicator periodically flashing 'data'.
As I said, I have not tried this but I believe this will allow your laptop to see the modem in your phone.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia3595/1.0 (8.12) Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

Yeah upgrading it to C56 you can use the gprs modem (high speed) or standard modem (low speed)
