Well those are for non-corporate or government prices.

Government is $199 with 2 yr contract. Same for corporate I believe.

Well, I picked up my i830 on Tuesday AM and the screen went completely blank on Wendesday afternoon. I then noticed a small flaw in the inside screen, under the lens. I went in today and exchanged it and all seems good (thanks again Joe) - In any case, I came back to Nextel and I really like this phone -it seems sturdy and well made and seems to give better performance all-around. I especially like that $99 unlimited plan! The only negative I noticed was that the regular speaker volume seems kind of weak, but maybe it's just my aging ears.

In my opinion, the i830 is worth a look.

nice pics. how much did the desktop charger cost ya?

Posted by: shanezam203

Thats real nice. Go into my info and push menu. go down to imei/sim and below that is your sieral # for the phone. dont know if anyone cares, I just think its a lot easier doing that than taking the battery off and getting it by hand. Figured I'd pass it on.

good for me, once boost i830's come out. if they ever.

Posted by: IM 2 BZD

it was 54 dollars at the NRS before a 10 percent corp discount so payed 49-50 bucks for it

Yeah, I'm hoping for the all black job, like the i730.

Posted by: hjacobs2000

I just received three of the silver i830s and the top does not fully align with the bottom when closed. (it actually sticks out to the right) Has anybody seen this? Two of the i830s came from a Nextel relail store, one from the Nextel phone order

Posted by: DigitalJEM

Mine is aligned perfectly

Posted by: Stevenek

ive seen a lot of post about the i830's having problems.. :\

Posted by: Matt

I haven't seen many. A few problems here and there, but not as bad when the i730 came out and everyone had major problems.

Mine is off a tiny bit too. About 3 millimeters.

Not much to worry about. It's not like I can even notice it without the magnifying glass I used to see it.

Posted by: GregGebhardt

Mine align. In fact I am quite impressed with the build quality. Mine ahs no detectable play in the hinge at this time. My past i730 and i95 had a good bit of play.

Posted by: hjacobs2000

The phones works great. They are just about 2 mm off in the allignment when closed, causing the inability to open the phone with only one hand

Posted by: chilib0wl

y dont u jus take off the panels and paint em? They dont look that hard to paint if ur good at it

You "could" order them thru Nextel as I did, but like I say, they sent me the larger battery but door to be delayed till 17th.

You need to keep a charger handy, even with the larger battery you will not get double the time from it. This is a small phone and putting a huge battery in it would have decreased it's appeal. For most the slim battery that comes with it is MORE than enough, for the one who use their phone more the standard battery will be the answer. I get thru the day now on the slim but today had only a 1/4 charge left.

For you, I suspect you need to go back to a previous phone that hald a MAX battery or use a landline.

As for the standard battery, I am really interested in how it will look. Definitely post up some comparison pictures when you get the door (which will be in, what, 3 weeks... oops nope it's been delayed sorrrrrrry that'll be 8 weeks you have to wait for your battery door sir )

-Brian

I have alid the slim and standard battery next to each other, there will not be much of an extra bulge, very little difference.

The larger battery will make the difference for some, but for those who have their phone stuck to the side of their face, they got the wrong phone!

good to hear guys....the only thing left to do is wait for a month or so till its 150 just like the 730..........

The desktop charger with the i730 cup installed has two protrusions that align with the slots in the bottom edges of the i730. They interfere with the i830 as it has no slots.

I hope they come out with a new cup to fit into the desktop charger for the i830.

Posted by: IM 2 BZD

pictures with the 830 in the charger have been posted 5 posts above yours. take a look, maybe the first batch of chargers shipped without the cup for the new form factor

Posted by: nkokas

From what i see the 830 is a poor product. It is small but It was a waste. They should have gone directly to the 860 and not even wasted their time. For those of you buying the 830. I thinky ou are suckers

I ordered the desktop charger about a month ago, it came with 3 cups to adapt to difference phones, but the I830 cup was not included. Where did you get yours?

Wonder if they sell separately?

Posted by: IM 2 BZD

my charger came with the cup included in the package. Nextel is probably gonna sell the cup seperately as well, since my thought about the first batch of chargers seems to be right on. Interestingly enough the packaging for the charger did not list the i830 as compatable it didnt even mention it anywhere on the bubble pack. I wonder if the cups were were sent white boxed and the stores were directed to open the bubble packs and put the new cup in each one.

Great thanx for your opinion.

Posted by: Nextel_Maniac

actually, the i830 has seen less problems than that i730 when it first came out...now you have to realize that some people do not need/want a camera phone...and some people want a small phone!

Exactly. If YOU think it's a waste then don't get it. Simple as that right??? I know i like it and it was worth the $150 i paid for it.

Posted by: Matt

But having 23 units of the i1000 isn't a waste?

Sure Buddy. Great Opinion

Posted by: Matt

Like I said in about 5 threads already

Quote:
Like I said in another thread, for all those that are so against the i830, if it had a screen size as big as the i95 in that small package, everyone would have it and no one would complain.

The i830 is a DEFINITE upgrade of the i730. Smaller size is a major difference and addition.

It's the fact everyone is so hard-headed in the Nextel Forum. Everyone doesn't care about size, because we have all dealt with the large size of phones for so long.

Yeah really. I have a half a pallet of bricks!

Some people just cant ever live out of the past.Wake up bro the days of i1000 and i90s are gone and its time to step up to the plate and spend some money for the new stuff.
You probably still have a motorola bag phone that you just cant throw away, right?

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

And i love my i830

It's always the ones who don't have one or aren't planning to get one who want to be negative. Stop living in the past and get a updated phone.

Posted by: cubensis

That is hopw my manager at work is. he swears by his i1000 and won't upgrade, while everyone else has the i530s. I think he and another lady are the only ones who still use the i1000. And before when I first came there he was using this huge "brick" phone, I can't remember the number. It couldnt even fit on his belt.

Posted by: Ron21

How is it a waste? Please explain...

If you don't like a certain phone there is a simple solution DON'T BUY IT!

I think you are bitter cause you are still stuck with your old phone. There is nothing wrong with the i830 and have found it to be much better than the i730.

Maybe you should stick to your i90

Why people make comments like this is stupid. Let us "suckers" spend our money the way we want

Posted by: IM 2 BZD

you said yours came with three correct ? Out of curiosity i just counted the ones I threw in the drawer to see what mine came with and I came up with four cups total.

I just cehcked again, mine acme with four cups that fit the i205, i305/i315, i530 and i730. No i830! I simply purchased mine too soon. Not that big of a deal. I am not going to pay another $50+ for another charger with the i830 cup.

Posted by: Jeffrc

personally i think its ugly as hell, and isnt enuf of an improvement over the 730.
BUT
the imporvement it does have is SIZE!
the main reason it came out is cuz nextel is trying to become more of a consumer company.
this phone is not meant for the contruction worker, its meant for wifey or johnny junior who want nextel, but dont want a huge phone. itsn ot meant to be a technilogical advance, its meant to be small. now to me its ugly, they could have done a much ebtter job, but ya know what, thats not to me to decide, cuz im sure it will sell for the fact that its small. once the price drops down to a reasonable amount, im sure ull see a huge drop in i730 sales.
nextel knows what its doing.
if the phone was so bad, we wouldnt have a million threads about it, and it wouldnt cost so much ion day 1, and then drop like crazy over the next few months, like the i730 did.
i can remember when the 730 came out people saying it was terrible id never buy that( me being one of them). now look at us.

Personally, I don't want a camera phone. My company actually has a ban on camera phone because we handle ALOT of confidential information. So why have a phone i can't even bring to work. And my gym also bans camera phones because of women complaining about harassment. For people who do not want a camera phone, the i830 is the perfect choice. Personally no matter how nice u may feel the i860 may be, it makes no sense for someone like myself to have one if I can only carry it half the time!

Posted by: IM 2 BZD

your right its a mistake on my part. I just read through the little book that came the charger and learned the the inserts have the phone they are compatable with written on the underside. The insert that I thought was for the i 830 is really for the i205 so i will be bringing the charger back. Good thing i didnt throw the packaging away yet. sorry for the misinterpretation through the 2 photos I posted and I stand corrected

Posted by: amc

It is not a bad idea to have those 23 units. You never know when you will need a back up of a back up of a back up for your spare and your other spare and your spare spare.

Yup, exactly. I couldn't care less about a camera, it just seems like marketing fluff to me. I want small, durable, stable phone.

is there any way to make the outside lcd on the i830 a different color then blue since it lights diff colors with ringtones? I would like to make it stay one of those other colors all the time .. is this possible?
thanks

For those that havent gotten yours yet I can tell you that this is way better than the pics and its worth getting, its a tiny 730 but I still love it. Loaded pics and rintones now so I am a happy Nextel customer till they piss me off again. good luck yall!!!

After two days of use, I must say I really like this phone. Size and weight are incredible.

On the speaker volume issue, make sure that your hand is not covering the speaker. Its on the back of the phone rather than the front like earlier models (i95, ect.) and this could be the source of the issue.

Like everyone else, I agree that battery life is the one big problem with this phone. I'm barely getting the advertised talk time. Going to solve this issue by getting a car charger and carry an extra battery. Not a big deal, I always carried an extra battery anyway for emergencies.

Good job Nextel, keep improving!

Craig.

So I called up Telesales today and they said that with my corporate account, I only get NEW numbers at the $199 price. I do get 5% off my bill though. I even had to pay for shipping of my i830.

The total was almost $350.

Oh well... still can't wait until my i830 is here!

-Brian

Posted by: dmhines

Yeah .. I was gonna get one on my corp account thinking it was $199 ... that is only for a new number on the account. Upgrade was $299. I said forget it ...

dont forget that the charger that comes with the i305 , i205 , i730 , 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup SeriesTM Phone , i530 , i733 will fit the i830

called telesales today...still back ordered....asked for the second time if copper was availible...now they said yes..shipped today..hopefully i will be happy soon too...ps...i have a question...i use a serial cable to load ×××× to my 730..will this work with the 830 or will i need to geta usb cable? If i do need usb..where can i get the usb drivers...and the updated version of webjal? thanks all

Posted by: Dnicekid

where can i get the standard batt for the 830 have searched and cannot find

Posted by: s25843

nope not at this time

Posted by: eye one

it depends on the "corporate" contract, some accounts get discount upgrade pricing and most don't.

any company will get as much as they can for a product, just give it time the price will go down.

good info, no doubt Nextel told M to do so since they are tracking MSN's now. Swapping units as an ASC the serial # is many times smeared or sometimes 8 books like B, great feature

Posted by: nextel4lfe

Just to add to the thread on my ride home on the LIRR today, I compared my 730 and the 830, and when my 730 would go from 4 bars to 2 to none to 4 to 1, the 830 remained at 4 at all times. Sometimes when the 730 was more stable, just going from 4 to 3 to 4, the 830 still kept up at 4, and in a spot where I know my 730 goes down to 1 or none, and sometimes drops out for a few seconds, the 830 did 1 to 2 the whole time. Definitely better in RF.

Posted by: Adam4865

Yea it depends on what govt/corp code your on

Posted by: KiNG Of CeLLZ

ringer volume at max is never too loud sumtimes i dont even hear it while its on my side with it on 5 so im using my 730 now im returning my 830 tomorrow.

UPS is on the list for flat rate price on upgrades. You should get the 830 for $199.99 w/ 2 year contract.

If you do an exchange, keep us posted to see if the speaker issue has been resolved with the new one. I am still going to hang in there to see if, perhaps we just got some duds. Maybe I will exchange mine as well

We just got 2 more for the office and they all have the ×××××× buzz in the speaker. And, the ringer volume is distorted when it is all the way up!

DO THEY TEST THESE THINGS BEFORE THEY RELEASE THEM?!?!

Posted by: Nextelcup

I posted something earlier today, They are doing it with all units now. i saw it in a 205. Must be the new security feature where the SN and Sim Id are tied together.

The i830 will run my status light, it blinks the backlight of the external lcds in different colors like it did the leds of the i730.

Posted by: Nextelcup

how can you say their are no issues with the unit and it is better than the i730 when it has only been out for 3 days? wait til it breaks there is harldy anything you can replace/ fix on the unit it is so small and compact. I think we need to wait a few weeks to see if this is a good unit knowing Motos track record on the other units.

Posted by: wjpooley

It's too bad we don't have anyone that might know, or might be working on the idea of picture messaging when the i860's come out, at Nextel that would voice their opinion/information on these boards. Nextel wouldn't dare put the i860's out later this year without having the ability to send these images....would they?!

man its been 10 hrs and im still waiting im about to call them up this is plain out dumb

Posted by: Matt

It's easy to say it when people bought the i730 and had issues with it before they even had it for 24 hours. I had mine for a day before it was screwed up and I had to swap it.

So you are right in a way to say it's still early, but compared to the i730, it's been a thousand times better already for me in RF performance alone.

Posted by: iXavier

It's like that for #,*,Menu,-> too.

I've seen i305s like that, they were right out of Nextel's warehouse so I assume they're the newest revision. Finally, something useful added to the menu.

x.

no offense

but those pics and that i90 looks like ×××

That i90 looks like it has been thru alot. i90 looks ugly. But i have to admit i have seen worse

I thought it wasn't so hot either at first but when I saw it I liked it(silver) and I grabbed one and guess what, the size performance and, as I said in another post, speaker quality are way better than the 730...which I didnt like at first either..lol
Overall- good upgrade for the people who don't want or need a camera phone. But I am still dying for the 860

It fits in your inner jeans pocket, and has the best reception of any Nextel ever -- even better than the huge old brick-sized models.

I drove from the 2 to the 134 east Glendale/Pasadena interchange all the way into Pasadena and was not dropped. LA people know this "Eagle Rock deadzone" The 830 didn't even fade!

I have the i730 and I ACCIDENTALLY drop it all the time and have had it for months and never had a problem. If I didn't want the 860 so much I would buy the 830. Just my 2 cents.

Um The i730 and i830 support both gifs and jpeg's.

Everything that I have is for the 730 and it works fine for the 830 but you will need the new version of webjal to do the loading also the patch to make the new version work, so if you have the old version of webjal uninstall it and keep the patch. the new version of webjal is at www.idenstop.com this where I got my version and now I have everything that was on my 730 on my 830 and I didnt do nothing new except get the new webjal. The car charger wall charger and data cable is the same if theres any questions let me know i am more than happy to help if I can.

Code - I the trial version for the i730 fully functioning? In other words, when I go to the app on my phone, start it, it works fine. When I exit the app, it stops. Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks!!

Posted by: AEguyNYC5

same here I paid $356 and im still waiting for it

Posted by: AEguyNYC5

I guess cuz im not a photographer but the pics look fine to me, it gets the message across i830 alot smaller.

Posted by: mattlenderman

that sucks. i like the phone & all, but i think im just gonna keep savin & get the 930 when it comes out. ive wanted that phone ever since i saw the first picture of it. i just wish theyd hurry up with it, then i think man they still gotta release the 860!!!!

Posted by: hoppyjr

I think the flip seems pretty sturdy -no creaking like the i730. Seems very well made overall............

Posted by: hoppyjr

I've had two (1st one had screen issue) and both were just ever-so-slightly off to the right. I'm pretty A/R so I noticed, but I'm trying to ignore it since most folks wouldn't even notice (gotta relax you know)

mine also sticks to the right when closed.

I actually find it easier to open with one hand. But of coarse I am right handed. All the left hand people might have a little problem.

Everyone here was waiting for the i830 (yes even you guys that said you hated the color, etc. etc..) And all i see is anal retentive complaining about hinges being off a mm, and the battery life being so bad. Well, its modern manufacturing people. Computers put stuff together, and they dont care about a mm in play. I am sure they are programed to actually have it in there. And on the battery, as was stated before 'thats the focal point', small size. If you dont like it, wait for the big battery, or go back to your 730, stop polluting the threads with your little stupid problems that dont matter. Atleast make your complaints something of value if your going to complain. Flame all you want cause I dont have 9849038493 posts, but facts are facts.

Thanks Bro!

Posted by: speedtec11s

on the 830 for ringers...do we still need to convert the mp3 files to wavs? is it 8 bit or 16 bit? etc...does anyone know these vital details?

Posted by: XxOTHERGROUNDxX

hehe... amen

i still want an 830 to complain about tho

Posted by: GregGebhardt

I agree! There are some that will complain no mater what. Most are those who can afford and are jealous. Nothing wrong with the i830, it's small and with small you got to give up some things.

For those who use their phone hours and hours each day, the i830 is NOT for you. Stick with your 2" think i95 and STOP complaining!

The i860 will be even more demanding on the battery with it two large screens, mine struggles to maintain charge if you use it too much. I just wish that Nextel would get the larger standard battery door for the i830 to me, which would provide more than enough time for me.

Posted by: Driver-13

Excuse me but the point here isnt to make the i90 look good.....its to compare sizes lol thats all , cuz other memebers have i90's and i60's and want to compare you know

Posted by: odell1978

reg account. activated instantly. then, i took it over to the guys at the service center .. and they swapped the contacts. they didnt see an i830 yet .. took them a lil longer to do their job cause they we're monkey'n around with it.

thanks for the help on the sim swap tho. i like the 830 a LOT better than my 730

Thanks, lets hope it keeps up because we had a meeting with Verizon yesterday to see what they can offer us, and they were very "responsive" in what they would do to get our business. I think the fact that we have around 7000 lines makes a difference in what they will do for ya You could say they were more then willing to pay 50% of our ETF's.

Does it?? Sorry, I didn't know Matt was here. I didn't mean to offend him by not knowing as much as he does about Nextels. I will clarify what i meant by being brief in my previous comment. I don't know if it is so, but I would be interested in purchasing the i830 if it supported the variant Gif known as GIF89a which gives the impression of animation to the image. Thereby making the wallpaper animated.

There is no question here folks, I live a little north of Boston and the reception was so bad I could hardly use it in my own house, with the i830 I have drivin right though spots were the i730 would drop the call 5 out of 5 times. Very happy with the reception. -Dan

I hate the i830. I think its too small.

Posted by: DJ NOOCH

ahh i see the light
quick question
i was at a store yesterday, not an NRS just a regular store
he was selling the 830s like crazy
he told me 299.99 w. 2 yr contract
fine
then he told me they take a $35 service fee?
is that from nextel or the store just making loot?

next question
as i know if i call telesales they can charge the phone to my account
is there anyway i can just pay the phone up front or throw it on a credit card instead of having it on my phone bill next month?
btw i am doin an upgrade not a new activation

thanks!

Posted by: Phenomenon

I just deleted a thread I posted on the subject. Mookie helepd me out with it. Shoulda left it up. When you seleck the ring tone click on menu and it'll give you the option with vibe.

Posted by: Phenomenon

Actually I'm one who thinks the i830 is perfect. Best phone so far ever put out by Nextel.

Hey thanks that actually works with my i730 too.

I would guess 95% of the Corp accts DO NOT get the discount on upgrades. If you're dealing with a direct or indirect rep make sure they look it up for you. it takes no time to do and can save you 100+ dollars.

Yeah that's true. Usually I just let you give me a massage and then I'm fine. So get to it.

Posted by: T-MOBILE GSM

I noticed on FDT that some phone models have CSPUPGRADE option and some only have CSP option. The reps can select just the csp option and call it a day but they rather select the other option. Half the time I would just select CSP and let QA approve it and that was the end of it.

You want a message? Go to friggin chinatown, they have good messages there. hahaha

i havent seen the i830 in person... so ill making my decision as to wheather i like it or not then... but form the pics, i like the look.

I didn't say message.

I said massage.

It involves getting me all oiled up and rubbing me gently. I love it when you use your elbows.

It's a great looking phone Steve. It's and all metal phone (first ever?) and has a nice weight to it. The fit and finish is superb given it a nice quality look to it.

Only problem with that is, you have to go through every assigned ring tone and re-assign it with vibe. There's no way (that I can see) to make it vibe, or for that matter, remove the vibe with every ring quickly. Cool feature though.

Posted by: banginis300

nope doesnt work... still does the same ol' thing where it will vibrate first for a lil, then it'll ring. Hopefully one day they'll get this right

Posted by: dmhines

I did the same at the NRS yesterday ... compared my i90 to the i830 .. there is no comparison ... the i830 is tiny ... and I use the Slim battery and cover on my i90 and it still seemed tiny.

the only motorola i ever saw ring and vibrate at the same time not one then another was mpx200 by att....... i dont understand why thye wouldnt do it for all of em......

Posted by: PSCMike

mines 1-2 mm off to the right too..

i830 > i730

Posted by: hominid7

My guess is due to the battery limitations, they did not want to add anything they did not have to that would use any juice at all.

Posted by: kco19

If I load this app (never used it before) won't it make my battery die even quicker with the LCD flashing an LED every time I lose or gain a bar? Is there a noticeable extra pull on the battery with this?

Posted by: Phenomenon

...not something to really make a big deal out of.

Posted by: PSCMike

went from my 730 to my silver 830.. and i L O V E IT!!!
at first i thought it was gunna be ugly as hell..
its a very classy looking attractive phone. In silver that is, havent seen a copper in person.
I LOVE the phone and wouldnt wanna go back to a 730... Big upgrade IMO... the size is just amazing

Posted by: IsTeAlJeTtAs

sounds like a $300 feature

Posted by: nextel4lfe

Personally, I have said it in other threads, but, I was very gungho about getting an 860 beta. Long story short, Im glad I didnt, have no need for a camera phone anyway, and LOVE the size of the 830. The 830 is smaller then all the phones, even the 860 and 930 of course, so I will be sticking with it.

what i mean is, yes the i830 is nice and small, but its 300 dollars....and youd think youd get a little bit more features for that much....i mean the v600 has 100 times the features and its cheaper.....

just a thought

Heh, The sad part about that, is that you are right... I paid $310 for my V600 WITHOUT contract, and it is so much feature laden than the i830, for which I paid more for with a 1 year contract

Posted by: mikecp421

you never offended me man! dont fret! I just wanted to drop the knowledge and seem smarter....but you the man!!

I have the 830 and it is a great phone. the reception is better than the 730. yes the bat life is not great but the phone is clean. so all you haters get the **** over it.

Posted by: Dispatcher319

I got it at the $199 rate I get 36% off on phns and 15% and i think 30% off on accesories. I don't want to say who I work for here.

Posted by: shanezam203

i figured it'd be on the new 730 that came today for a customer but it wasn't that's weird. You'd think if it's on the current 830, it'd be on the current 730's. Maybe they still have some 730's that have been in stock for a while and not updated yet....
O well. It's still a pretty cool feature on the 830. I used to hate taking the battery doors off and then looking for the sn. Now it'll be a little easier. (you'll be at that screen anyway if your doing a swap)

I get 39% off phones, 18% off bill, and 20% off accessories. I talked to a Nextel Rep and he said the discount off phones does nothing. You either pay the flat rate for the phone, which is $199 or pay the no commitment price which is the MSRP of $449. In other words, the discount is not used.
