Out of everything i'd go with the PDA if I was to use something. I hate those body glove cases, just make the phone bigger and ugly. Feel like a cab driver.

I just use the regular case and be careful though.

Also, which Body Glove case do you think is better. I prefer the ion cellsuit over the scuba style.

I'm really considering trying out the horizontal carrycase, though.

I have a nice scratch on my screen. Looks like it was hitting the metal plate just above and between the 1 and 2 keys. However, I'm no so sure if it's a fitment issue or something small got lodged in there. I'm pretty pissed though. I think I'm going to buy some screen protectors.

Same here with the scratch on the screen. You think they would have kept this in mind seeing as how so many i90's had this problem too. What a pain in the ×××, and an ugly one too. Cant believe how hard it is to keep this phone looking new. Battery life also sucks, but its NEW and looks cool! Not to mention its the smallest ×××× thing nextel customers are going to see for a long time.

i know i have searched and i know the i730 status light java app works for the i830 but does anyone who has TRIED it have any feedback about it? and is the newest version DEBUGGED? if so where can i get it i cant find the link....thanks

Here's one for you...I know that Nextel has a policy that it's 35.00 to set up the account but each account is only subjected to a 70.00 max account set-up fee's...which, is two phone lines...now...when I upgraded to the i830, on my receipt, it shows the account set-up fee of 35.00...well, since I already have two phones on my account...should I really be subjected to another 35.00 "account set-up" fee....I mean, this itself breaks their own contract...unless of course, I am wrong...

If you did another new line, it means you will only be charged $70 if you say activate 2 or more lines at once.

Since you previously have 2 lines, that has no effect on adding a line now. Now you only added one new line of service, which you are charged $35.00 for.

The upgrade fee is an "Account Modification Fee" whereas the account setup fee is for new lines of service.

It's basically the same, just called something different.

well, on my bill, it specifically says "Account Set-Up" Fee? Perhaps I could fight this...but in all actuality, it probably won't be worth my time...

well...see, here is my question...I have three lines on my account...when I set up the third one, I wasn't charged the 35.00 account set-up fee...because my account had already reached the 70.00 account setup limit...

Now, when I upgraded, the lady specifically called it an "Account set-up" fee...and even on the invoice that I have when I signed a two year agreement...it says..."account set-up" fee...of 35.00 then below that on fine print, it says 35.00 account set up fee per line, 70.00 max!

eh, it's a worthless argument, I guess that I'm just ranting a little bit right now...

Well if it was an account upgrade, and they put it as account set-up, what would happen? You'll call in and complain, and they'll say Ok I'm sorry, we'll change it so it shows Acct. Modification Fee then what?

There's no change. It appears they just picked the wrong option and it won't result in getting your money back. Mistakes happen.

Well when you're upgrading, you're not setting up an account. You're transfering an existing number between phones.

I have a i730 and want the i830 but they keep telling me that its 299.99 even with my gov't discount instead of 199.99 like some of you got it for. They told me it would be 199.99 if adding a new line. Can I add another line to my existing account and have both on the same phone then cancel the extra line and keep the phone for the 199.99 price? Thanks guys, also I talked to 4 reps today at different times and only one said there was a rebate, do they not know what they are doing?

Government and corporate discounts are only on new lines of service. There isn't a rebate on the 830 yet.

Well to all the owners of the 830, mine died today and I had it exchanged at a nextel walk in express store so now I dont know if it was the stuff I loaded in it or just a new software bug that I happen to pick up or mine was made on a Friday at 4:45pm I dont know but it was a bit strange how it power cycled on its own then went dead today and wouldnt power back up, oh well I got a new on to wreck and see, wish me luck

you should try it sometime...but since im nice ill answer you question...yes they are both falcon phones...so you can switch the sims back and forth as much as you want...all the features will work

Yes, it will work, but if you have insurance on your phone, be sure to change the serial, IMEI number, so that if your phone gets damaged or lost, they'll have on record that you've got an i830, not a i730.

Just a simple video of the i830 lights flashing...and the status light works. whaddaya know....pretty much the same as the i730 though to me....but i'm happy with it. 299.99-90.00 trade in-corp.discount-109.99....pretty good to me....cant beat the price...only if i got the 50.00 mail in rebate...then it would be 59.99...lol. Just my 2cents!

That's exactly what my i730 was doing about a month ago - it would power cyle on and off by itself - when I turned my phone off, it would go back on and vice versa. When I called Nextel, they acted like this was completely normal for the phone. I hope the 830 doesn't dissapoint because it only took my 730 about 6 months to fail.

Yeah i know...i havent taken anything off yet. I just plugeed ti right in and uploaded my ringers and backrounds...i have to buy a body glove or something today...i dont want it to get scratched....i still cant believe i got this thing for 110 bucks...and i paid 300 for my i730 when it came out.

Why wouldn't it be true? Amazon.com does this a lot, but you have to pay upfront and wait on your rebates... but they will come eventually.

It's an inexpensive way to get new service, but you lose the benefit of a face to face transaction. If you know what you want, and you know the plan/services you want, it's not a bad way to go.

Total=109.99 +MD Tax

They called and said no corp. discount on upgrades, and then he called back from the nextel store and they gave him some GAE8 something something code and I got the corp discount.

Oh, and by the way. I did get stuck with the 35.00 upgrade fee charged to my next bill...I almost got lucky and didnt have to pay but ××××! I wasnt...but still cheap phone so I dont care.

yo, just called and swapped mine. I got my 830 Friday and have been using it. nextel took it upon themselves to change my SIM id to my SIM that came with the 830. So make sure you call them and switch it, cause If something happened to my 830 and I called them they had me still having my 730 but using my 830 sim.

i love nextel and i dont see myself gettin any other provider...but i just dont understand how nextel can release new phones such as the i830 without having ALL not some ALL, the vital accessories such as a bigger BATTERY! i mean i waited for a while for the i830 then it got delayed...then it came out then it was backordered...now i got my phone and i need a bigger battery and its not out there to purchase...must everything include such a loooooooooooong wait? if anyone can tell me when the bigger battery is due out id much appreciate it...if it takes that long maybe ill get he LINC battey and door bc i need it, eventhough its not silver or nextel...please let me know thanks...

I'd say do more research before buying something new if that's important to you.

What's a vital accessory to you might be unecessary to someone else. To me, the whole idea of having a small thin phone is to NOT have a big extended battery hanging out the back. If I want unlimited talk time, I'll just stick a diehard in my knapsack with a pair of jumper cables.

Well - i made the plunge and got an i830. At first, based on the pics on the web, I didnt really like it. But when I saw it in the store, it kinda grew on me. So after leaving the store.. a few friends made some comments that they really liked my phone. The next day at work - everyone was commenting on my nextel. One person actually said they were going to switch to nextel b/c they loved my phone. I didnt realize how many eyes would turn b/c of this phone... needless to say, i am liking it so far. Dont have any complains.

On another positive note - a praise story to nextel retail reps/customer service:

WHen I purchased my i830 i was ready to pay the $300 b/c i am an exisiting customer and didnt think i would qualify for any "special" rebates/discounts. So the rep pulls up my account and see's that I receive a discount from work. He then said.. you werent gonna tell me were you... I said no- didnt think it would matter... then he said it made a difference of $150. I looked at hime and said thank you for telling me... some people would have just kept that to themselves. Props to nextel for providing great service and honest service as opposed to some carriers... wont mention any. :-)

Well, I got my i830's (one for me and the SO) the day after their release and got the Body Glove holsters.

The Body Glove cases are awesome. Holds it well and does a great job of protecting it.

Here is a problem I am having. Went to Motorola's IDEN site and downloaded the phonebook manager and I have a serial cable. I tried to use it with my i830 and while it tests well, it can't get the phone book information. Anyone know if the programs work with the i830 at all?

Right now, my darn i830 keys are scratching the h*** out of my screen...and it's pissing me off...lol. I may pick up another body glove case...although it didn't really fit that well on mine...right now I bought some PDA screen protectors and just cut it to fit my i830 screen and is doing a good enough job for now...

The current phonebook manager does not work with the i830. If you put the simm form the i830 into an i730, you can download the and upload contacts using the i730 as a go between until the software is updated. Just remember to put the active simm back into the i830. It may not be the best way, but at least you do not have to type all your contacts again

In the past I've found that these cases can make the phones seem twice as thick as they really are. Also that the keypad covers make it so you have to jam down on the keys to dial.

To those who own the body glove case, does it fit nice and snug, still having the appearance and feel of a small phone or does it add a lot of bulk?

Also, are you finding the plastic keypad cover (I'm assuming there is one) to be a problem?

Lastly, when you have a flip phone with one of these cases on it, it can cause problems like bunching up near the flip, or darn near coming off when you open the phone. How does the Body Glove case handle the flip?

Anyway, I noticed while I was in mexico last month that this kind of holder was popular with women and, interestingly enough, VERY popular with men. They all had their TelCel phones in there. Personally I'd not use it, but I rarely carry my phone on my belt anyway.

I doubt anytime it will be anytime soon. They'll probably drop the price on the 730 for awhile first. Then after sales slow down, drop the 830 price.

everyone I've spoken to at Nextel, retail stores, here on forums, etc...

they've all said the same thing.. just about the time the 860 comes out, it will drop slightly, but not alot.. and then when the 930 comes out (supposedly in/around december 04) then it will drop to about the $150 range, just as the 730 did when/before the 830 came out.

It looks liek it might work good depending on how hard it is to get your phone in and out of it. But I aint wearing it. I am happy with the standard OEM clip. Have ordered an additional one in case this one breaks and they all wear out with time.

those are the corporate account prices right now......well excluding the 860 and 930....but i am in agreement that the general public price will be that by the end of the year......but the 830 has to drop when the 860 comes out..........but i im sweet and got my 830 for FREE

I think the i930 will be at least 399 and not drop in price for a long time.

What about the i730? Will that phone be phased out by the time the 860 is launched? If the 830 drops to 149, then the i730 will have to be at least 50 bucks cheaper or not available at all.

Can someone tell me why the Telenav Compass feature can't get a gps signal? I thought the compass gave free readings but other features were locked down?
I actually have two phones. My wife's has coordinates listed on it but can't get a new signal either. Mine has all 0 and can't get a signal.

Thought, reading more on the site, the rebate says with a rate plan.. and I don't know that Nextel has any 1 year contract rate plans anymore.. do they?

Now, I wonder if they would let you get the $15/month team share add-on as the plan and still give you the rebate? after all, there isn't anything on the rebate form that states (a wireless plan that is $xx.xx or greater... it just say "a service plan")

Yes they do. All rates are for one year, just the equpt. makes the difference on contract.

Just because some rumor spreader started a thread saying February for the i930 does not make it a fact. Go dig that thread up, you will see that the guy who started the thread never posted in it again and it was a 6 pager. He's got a special edition 830 coming out 7 months after the 830 launch date.

When i had my i730 I also returned it because of the service issues but that was through telesales.

the whole PTT thing is really a cool thing to have but unfortunately (in my opinion) that comes in at a hefty price when one has to consider that dealing with Nextel is like selling your soul to the devil. once you're in, you're locked in and there's not a d@mn thing that you can do about it.

you either put up with Nextel's highway robbery rates, their infamous rude CSR reps and their outragesouly (sp?) over-priced phones or you get out and have no PTT feature.

i gotta 5 mp camera... the pics are very high res, but of course i resize them to 800X600 for the forum...

i thought the pics didnt look that bad?

anyway, the phone is VERY VERY nice

honestly, the nokia and whatever phones out there dont have a good a screen as the 860...

the ONLY phone i saw that compares to the 860s screen size is the toshiba sprint phone i talked about...

i can emphasize it enough, but the inside screen is AWESOME!!! it is VERY nice, only prob is, in the sunlight, u cant see it at all

also, the outside screen is kinda cool, its a lil pixelated but not to bad, i like it alot, lol, its almost the size of the 830 inner screen

the cam works great too, if u have seen the cingular camera phone, it looks like it has the same software(moto made that one too)

like eph said, only 10 sec clips

and yes , it has the push button flip, which is SWEEETTTT lol

only thing that feels awkward is closing it, but not a big deal

im gonna take some more pics, but its raining outside

I bought 2 830s and loaded stuff in them via webjal on Friday by Monday mine died they exchanged it I loaded more again via webjal and boom it died today but yet my girls 830 still works and mine is dead times 2!!! whats up with that, any body else loaded stuff in theirs and have my same issues???

the chrome is just like the chrome on the 730, if that answers your questions, yes there are other colors, and for the final time THE I860 TAKES MP3 RINGTONES! i hope that answers the rest of your questions

On another thread about the 860, I don't remember which one, the OS looked more refined than the one on the 730 and 830. The buttons (on the screen, or "links") looked "more rounded" and had a gradient effect on them. I was just wondering if this was something that was new, an updated look, in the the software on the upcoming phones, or just something that someone managed to to on their own with a lot of time on their hands? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll see if I can find that thread again.

I have two i830's.
One has internet access the other does not.
The one without it has GPS coordinates on it (in gps menu).
The one with the internet has all zeros'.
Both have coordinates in the service menu.
Neither can not aquire a fix through the GPS menu...because I don't subscribe.
Neither can aquire a fix through the Compass. I thought the compass feature was free and would get a fix for you???

well, thats a problem with most if not all cell phones in bright sunlight so you really cant take that away from the 860.

yeah i held an 860 at my local mall and closing it was really weird. The spring had alot of feedback and you have to really press down to close it. I dont know if u have to press the button or suttin to close it but it was weird. It was still a hot ××× phone to just even hold. But anyways, nice pics and phone nima !

Very nice - I wonder what the screen size of this (860) is versus the 930. I am not so sure I want to wait for the whistles and bells of the 930, especially if it has a smaller screen than this.

I went into the 6:1 menu on my i830 and my phone says

MS 0 FNE 1

So I guess my phone isn't using the 6:1 vocoder like my 730 is... Anyone else have MS 0 FNE 1 as well? I know 6:1 should be active everywhere including my area... NoVA/DC

I did get a fix on Telenav and the GPS menu and I am using Boost Mobile on my 830, so I definitely am not subscribing to anything Nextel offers.

Is it possible to enter your contacts (i.e., names) in ONLY caps? I've read through the manual and have played with the phone and can't figure it out. I noticed that the phone came programmed with Nextel's # already there and it was in caps.

Yes you can...simply hold down the pound key (that's the # key)...and you'll see that it will go to all caps...you may need to do it twice...I don't have my phone in front of me...

When I had the i95 I picked up a body glove case and it made the phone seem all bulky and squared off. It no longer had that sleek look. I was worried about getting one for the i830 but I tried one out and it's completely form fitting, snug, and the phone still maintains its small, sleek appearance. I think the fact that the i830 is more of a rectangle shape, without the curves and rounded corners helps a lot. This thing fits like a dream and if you're anything like me, you already have a few scuffs on your battery door. I didn't want anything to happen to the flip so I decided I want this thing protected.
