vx4600 Ringtone/Wallpapers don't show up

So I got my new LG vx4600. I ordered the cable on ebay, installed the drivers, used the newest bitpim (beta 11) and hooked everything up in the right order. I get te data from the phone, upload my wallpapers (bmp's that are 120x131) and my midi's (mid files less than 30 secs) from bitpim to the phone. When I browse the phone filesystem, right there in the "usr" directory are my files.

all is going great, I tell myself.

now where the hell are they on the phone?! I've tried everything but the phone itself won't display the pictures and ringtones anywhere. I can't set the wallpapers or ringers because the new files just don't show up. I tried moving the files to the "user" directory instead of "usr" thinking that maybe bitpim was being retarded with my 4600, but no.

do I maybe have to tell bitpim the phone is a 4500 rather than that "vx4600 (telus mobility)" thing? I think I'll try that next.

also, how do I get these ×××× files off of my phone now that are useless? when i delete them in bitpim and resend the data bitpim just dies. I'm assuming I can't just delete the folders through the filesystem tab.

thanks,
dan

well, it looks like I answered my own question.

you must tell bitpim you have the 4500 not the 4600. Yes, everyone probably knows this. It writes to a whole new directory, the brew/shared directory rather than the user directory.

however, not my question is what to do with the user directory that has my (useless) duplicate files. was this directory there before? can I just delete the files.

sorry for the stupid post.

I'm a newbie with data cables, however I do noticed all the posts indicating that you need to tell bitpim to use the 4500 settings... that's fine.. my question is what data cable do i get? Ebay has so many diff ones... "Futuredial" non futuredial... ones that cost 10, 20, 30... any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

yoblin, I ordered the same cable that you did about a week ago, and boy does it work great... I've used BitPim to upload three 20 to 50 second ringtones in MP3 format, and about four wallpapers... I love this cable... *kisses cable*

All I did was follow the instructions here and I got everything right on the first try... Now its memorized up in my head!

BTW, I got BitPim to use the 4600 instead of the 4500 like you mentioned above!

So this phone will let you use MP3 style ringtones? I was starting to miss my Nextel BRICK i730 because all I had were Mp3s on there. Im new to Verizon and the new LG V4600. I was thinking of sending it back to get a camera phone but might end up keeping it.

Ok, now I've gotten the stated cable, installed it no prob.

I'm using bitpim 0.7.14, and I have a Telus Mobility LG4600 phone (which supposedly this version of bitpim supports and is available)

I am able to pull my phone book down.

I am unable to pull/view any of my ringtones or wallpapers.
I am unable to upload any new entries in the phonebook, upload any ringtones, and while it does upload the wallpapers, I am unable to view them under the phones "wallpaper" folder. They just seem to hang.

What format do the pictures have to be in? What is the size?
I was using .bmp at 120x131 resolution (120 width, 131 height)

I've compared the files that I've uploaded to the existing wallpapers, and it looks like the preset ones are only 4-5kb in size, while mine are around 35-45kb in size... is that normal?

I need help with this! Any and all assistance greatly appreciated!
