P800 - Cracked LCD

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I accidentally dropped my P800 and the LCD cracked. The touch screen is not working anymore.

Should I :
- contact SE for repair, or
- buy an LCD replacement and repair it myself?

Do you think there's any internal damage beside the LCD?

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds serious, it look like a job for SE. Anyway see how much it's gonna cost, if it's alot look into upgrading to a P900.

I dunno how much the repair costs. I'm gonna contact SE tomorrow. The LCD replacement cost US$160.

global mobility is selling it for $150 usd + shipping; swapping the lcd is dead easy

my p800 had a scratch (but still fully functional) on the display (and the housing had some dings); i ended up just getting a p900 instead and dumping the p800 really cheap

how did it crack?? What did you drop it on?

Posted by: Apocrypha

Basically the crack is a straight line from lower left to upper right. I can't feel the crack with my fingers so I'm guessing it's the second layer of the LCD. The touch screen is not functional anymore. Dropped it on a parking lot (asphalt).

Anyone knows where to buy the screwdriver?

Thanks for the info.

I wish I could buy a new one and sell my P800, but this one is a broken unit. It worth really really cheap and I dun really want to sell it cause it was a gift. If I ever gonna sell it, I would at least get it fixed first.

p800 uses a torx t8 screwdriver, readily available at home depot, canadian tire

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna open it up and see what I can do with it. If nothing else is damaged, I just need to get the LCD replacement.

good luck!

Update:

So I opened up the phone after buying the screwdriver (which I'm gonna return it tomorrow ), and found everything seems okay, except the LCD itself. So I bought the LCD replacement off a local store for Can$225 tax-free, put it in, and it works! I'm glad all the files are still there.

Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions
