...getting pictures on my phone. When I choose my old image on the phone and try to overwrite it with new one, it does that. But when i try to go and view that file on the phone, it tells me "Cannot show image" or something like that. And when I tried sending same image via vzwpix.com, the picture has white borders about it (aka its smaller then 128x128 size). Can anyone help me please??? Maybe i'm Overwriting the wrong way or something =/

Just a few tips:

Make sure the file type is the exact same, ie if the seed file is a jpg, then the file you overwrite it with should be jpg.

Recommended is to save a seed .png file and overwrite it with a png of your choice, and to have a full screen wallpaper, with no white borders it should be 128 wide by 145 tall. Also, make sure that when you save the .png that transparency is turned off.

Ive noticed several posts say to turn transperancy off to get png to work.. but i look all through photoshop and I cant find any option to turn on or off... there is no alpha channel... so im not sure what else to check...

when i make my own png's i get the same message "invalid file type: delete image" wether i upload via cable, or send it over vzwpix. All the ones if found here work though...

Make sure they're 8bit pngs, and not 24bit.

8 bits per channel is the setting I have it on in photoshop...
opened up a working image from
http://www.spirit-quest.ca/images/v...0landscapes.htm
all the settings look the same to me

I even took one of those images into photoshop, and pasted my image over it... then flattened and saved....
the only options i get when saving are interlaced or not interlaced.... and both give the same result.. "invalid file type: delete image?"

There is most definately a transparancy checkbox in the settings area in Photoshop 7. I don't have a copy of Photoshop CS handy, so I can't comment on where the selection would be there.

The image at my site:

www.zaediex.org/8900/

was created with photoshop. You might want to use it as a reference file. Other than that I don't know what to say. I've never had any issues creating PNG files for my 8900.

I have tested most of the ones that I posted on my site, and they all work fine for me. Right now I am using the unicorn one from the fantasy pics.

not only is there no transparency checkbox... there also is no settings area...
i've checked photoshop CS, 7.0, and am now trying 5.5... still nothing.

There is a transparency section in the preferences but it only allows u to change the look of the grid that appears behind.
There is also a preserve transparency checkbox in the layers toolbar, but that is disabled once the image is flattened. I did notice that your image is "index" color rather than rgb... ill have to try that later and see if it has an effect

How are you saving the PNG? Are you selecting "Save for Web" menu item, or are you using Save As? "Save for Web" _definately_ has a Transparency checkbox, I'm staring right at it.

Try save for web, that's most likely where the disconnect is.

Nope, save for web is definetly the last place i would have looked. And sure enough theres the checkbox... once i get home to where my data cable lives ill give it another shot... thanks ahead of time though

And you were right... save for web fixed everything....
thanks alot guys, i new there was a simple step i was missing.

now I get to carry Eliza in my pocket... at least untill i get bored and do another image.

well, pics are in .jpg format, and they are ones that someone here made (fantasy ones...sorry, forgot name). First I tried overwriting same .jpg file, and it was no good. THen i tried sending this file via vzwpix.com site and it worked, but it had borders around it, and when tried to overwrite SAME exact file with SAME exact file via cable...nothing =/

Don't use jpg, use png (I made the same mistake and felt stupid posting about once I figured it out! ) -- Thanks zaediex for straightening me out <grin> Anyway you need to use the data cable, and use ong pix.

Im having the same problem when i transferd the picture from verizons web site i get borders to and i have done nothing to the picture downloaded from the fantacy free web sight when i transfered picture i just sent it to my phone number did i send it the right way? the pic is dragonrose all the work should already be done right?

Posted by: Synergie1

You have to use the data cable and bitpim to have the pic with no borders. It is a very *annoying* bug in the 8900's browser that will not let you save anything wider than 90px I think (and if the pic is wider it will squish it)... And the screen is 128 wide, hence the white border. Doesn't makse any sense why they would make the browser unable to support graphics up to the screen width.... but I hope they can fix it in a software / firmware update. Anyway use the data cable and bitpim and you wont have any more white borders.
