quick wav or mp3 to mid converter ?

I have a bunch of "sound effects" I'd like to use as ringers (sirens etc..) - but- they're all in wav or mp3 format.
I've tried a couple of the converters available on the net but they all want to convert the sound effect to some sort of song....

I just want the same sound effect...just a different format...

Changing the file extension doesn't work either.
Once the file is uploaded via bitpim it doesn't play.

Thanks, Dan

to put mp3 sounds on my phone i just changed the file extension. for example i had file.mp3 and i renamed it file.mid than i uploaded it to my phone using the data cable. no need to convert it to another format. hope this solves your problem.

You can't convert mp3 to midi; midi is a synthasizer and mp3 is a digitized analog sound (music, voice, etc). If you have a phone that can use mp3s (VX6000 is one), just upload the mp3. Don't upload the whole song though. Only about a 30sec clip; anything more is a waste of memory and may prevent your phone from powering on properly.

Assuming a Windows system, try this one: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

It actually becomes a feature off the right-click menu when mousing over any .wav or .mp3 file. Versatile setting to save on file size. Converts quickly too!

it worked !

Thanks !

I used cool edit to manipulate my files, saved it as a wav or mp3 from cooledit.

right clicked on it, went to the "convert to" tab, made sure it was mono, 16k, mp3, kept the bitrate low for a smaller filesize.
After the conversion was done I just renamed the extension to .mid, uploaded the file via bitpim and it works !!

Thanks Again, Dan

You don't need to change the file extension.

mmmmmmmm.....yeah........you do.

bitpim will not recognize .mp3's as an uploadable ringer for the vx4400.

If you know of a way to get the mp3 (as an .mp3 extension) uploaded via bitpim to the 4400 as ringer PLEASE post it.

Thanks !!

Dan
