S56, how to get Bluetooth working?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just acquired a Siemens S56 (Cingular) and a Bluetrek bluetooth headset. I was successfully able to scan for the Bluetrek device, and the S56 now reports 'BlueTrek1' in its Bluetooth device list.

However, although Bluetooth is still activated on the phone, I am unable to get the Bluetrek to really work properly. In particular, there is no audio on the headset when I place a call, and pressing the headset button to answer a call has no effect.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I haven't used that particular headset, but on mine (Sony-Ericsson HBH-65), if you dial a call from the phone you need to press the button on the headset to transfer the call to headset.

Have you tested to make sure that the connection between the headset and phone is still active (e.g., by making a call using the headset)?

Hi, I have similar problems to get the S55 and a Jabra BT 200 to work. Called Siemens, but they do not support this model. Everybody says it will work, but....

Anyone got this combination?

Thanks.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I can't test right now, because my wife is away and took the S56 with her (it's her phone).

I found this document:
http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...e/bluetooth.pdf

which is interesting. There are some potential compatability issues for bluetooth headsets with Bluetooth phones in general, including which version of the Bluetooth protocol the headset supports (the S56 requires version 1.1, and I haven't yet figured out whether my Bluetrek headset uses 1.1 or 1.0) and haven't confirmed that the S56 supports both the Bluetooth headset and handsfree profiles; from http://bluetrek.com/bluetrek/bluetr...rouble.htm#No32 :

Bluetrek V1.2 supports both handset and handsfree profile, whereas Bluetrek V1.0 supports only handset profile. In other words, if your phone (e.g. Nokia 3650) uses only handsfree profile, it can only be used with Bluetrek V1.2.

Hopefully these aren't really issues, since the S56 is listed as compatible with the Bluetrek at:
http://bluetrek.com/bluetrek/bluetrek1.0_comp.htm

Yes, Siemens is being quite a pain about not supporting non-Siemens headsets. I wonder if you had wireless problems and had a D-link router but a Netgear PCMCIA card, would both companies refuse to provide support? Perhaps, but I'd like to think otherwise.

I'm not really any help, I'm just here to say that I have a S56 and just got a BT250 headset the other day and can't get it to work either.

It's successfully paired, but I can't hear anything (through the headset) when I dial a call from the phone, nor can I answer any calls. I've followed all the instructions to a T.

Hmm... looks like a pattern to me ... probably a bug in the latest S56 firmware, not that we'll ever get any help from Siemens support.

Well, I've verified that (a) my Bluetrek phone is Bluetooth 1.1 compliant AND (b) the S56 supports (only) the Bluetooth headset profile. So in terms of standards, there is no explanation for why these headsets aren't working.

Another possible explanation is operator error; maybe we all need to reboot our phones and/or headsets. I'll give this a try tonight.

By any chance is there someone out there with a Siemens Bluetooth headset and an S56? If so, is Bluetooth working for you, or not?

Hi,

I tried all the combinations with Bluetooth pairing and on and off and so on. On the phone the same. Nothing. I did wrote an e-mail to JABRA (BT200) but no response yet.

No Siemens headset for me, but as mentioned before I have used the S56 with a SE bluetooth headset (sorry, it's HBH-35 not -65 as I said before). The connection has worked pretty well, although occasionally I have a hiccup where the two think they are connected but the button on the headset doesn't work for pickup/initiating call. On those occasions, I have always been able to fix the problem by powering down the headset, cycling Bluetooth on the phone off, then on again, and restarting the headset.

I'm not sure whether I'm using the "headset" or "handsfree" profile, but if it helps to distinguish, my connection is not "always-on" -- that is, if I dial a call from the phone I need to press the key on the headset to pick it up, and I also cannot auto-answer calls to the headset.

OK, I'm feeling a little bit foolish, but I think that I may have resolved my problem.

I had previously thought that the phone and the headset were already paired, but I had never seen the prompt for the password, which for the bluetrek is 0000. Last night after my wife returned from her trip I played with it a bit more, and got the S56 to prompt me for the password. I don't remember exactly what I did, and will try to reproduce and post it here. I remember pushing the left-soft-button, which I hadn't pressed previously in the same situation.

Once the password was entered, I was able to successfully hear a call placed from the S56 (to a recorded message ... it was late in the evening) in the headset. I'm pretty sure that I could receive a call successfully as well, although that's a bit harder to test by yourself.

I will try to play with this some more and produce some clearer instructions.

The bottom line is: if you haven't entered your passcode/PIN, the S56 and the headset haven't really been paired yet. I suggest that you Jabra users try this if you haven't already.

Thanks to all for your help and feedback.

Hi,

no. I paired successful every time. But no connection to the phone whatsoever.

Waiting for JABRA to e-mail back.

Out of desperation, I tried pairing the phone with the headset (bt250) again this morning. I followed the same instructions (for the handsfree profile) and it again asked me for the pin, which I gave. Really, did nothing different. And lo and behold - it worked! I can't really explain it. But I'm happy.

I have used bluetooth with my S56 from day one and had virtually no problems. I have used both the Jabra BT200 and BT250 successfully. I recently moved from the BT200 to the BT250 because I broke my BT200.

I am able to answer/end incoming calls from the headset. I am able to initiate a call from the headset using voice dial. I can transfer a call in progress from the phone to the headset.

The only issue I have encountered is that, ocasionally, the phone will not respond to the headset when the button is pressed. I don't know why this happens but powering down the phone and restarting resolves the problem every time. Ocasionally I get a message on the phone that says "Internal Bluetooth Error." I can't be 100% sure but I think this may be related.
