Why no EDGE on S65?

Why doesn't the S65 have EDGE support? Did the European market skip the EDGE step and go from GPRS to UMTS/3G??

If so, is it plausible to speculate that if Siemens were to release a S66 (US version of S65) it would include EDGE support? Otherwise it can't call itself a "business-savvy" phone as much anymore since GPRS isn't exactly fast enough for repeated business use (e.g., downloading larger attachments with e-mail, sending those 1.3 MP pictures over the network, etc.)

To be honest - if you asked a Euro what EDGE was, most wouldn't have a clue. I've taken a passing glimpse but always thought it was the US's version of GPRS.

Yes, we skipped out Edge and went straight to 3G.

Siemens have only really made one 3G phone in collaboration with Motorla. IMO - to be 3G you've gotta have a pretty large handset bar that tape measure Nokia one.

GPRS is what Siemens put on all their 2G phones and people seem to get on with it fine here.
