Well I would like to say thank you to anyone who has ever posted useful information and help on this forum. Things were looking bleak for syncing my s40 with outlook xp on windows xp but thanks to a search in the forum I found that turning off the file and picture sharing and also using com4 allowed repeatable successful syncs.
Thank you to the whole forum.

Hey Eric,
I still haven't gotten mine to work. Could you help me out? Are you on a laptop? I have XP and typcially the IR com port is COM4. Did you install a virtual com port (iRCOMM2K)? Does it matter what order you install the programs? You turned off the images and file sharing? Is there anything else? I would love you could just post a quick step by step. That would help so much. I have been fiddling with this too long. I must be retarded. THANKS

step by step...
First I installed ircomm2k from here. http://www.gsm.org.uk/gsm.html
I installed it to use com4.
Next I had the s40 and the laptop (dell latitude) connect using ir.
Now i right clicked on the ir icon in the task try and selected properties in properties i unchecked the boxes to match the screen shots exactly as shown here http://www.gsm.org.uk/ircomm_settings.htm.
Now i installed the latest xtend connect pc from here.
http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...2Fdanda,FF.html
I then went into the xtend connect application in the program menu and made sure that it was set to use com4 and the speed was set to 57600 or so.
Now before you try to sync. what i did is wipe my s40 clean so that outlook writes it all in and there are no conflicts.
On your s40 turn on sync and data under the irda menu and wait for your laptop to establish the connection to the phone, "ir icon in task tray". now tell xtend connect to sync.
good luck,
eric

Eric,
Thanks for the info. The only thing is that when I go to install irComm2k on com4, it says that that com4 is in use. Com4 is the port that my IR usually uses. I think I closed out all programs that might be using that port (only Palm Hotsync). Did you have this problem?
Thanks, aaron

it said something like, com4 is used by another application but you can try using it anyway.l
so i just told it to use it.
make sure that hotsync doesnt use it.

Eric,
YOU RULE! I got it working. Yeah, you were right… I had to force it to com4. Actually, the irComm2k said com4 was taken and it was by a PCMCIA modem I had in. I didn’t realize that the modem was occupying com4. After reassigning it, it works perfect now. Thanks so much. I really appreciate it!

aaron, glad to hear it worked.
i think the sync feature and the address book is what really makes the s40 special.
glad I could help.
