Data cable

I've bought a data cable from E-Bay, it upgrades firmware ok but I can't get it to work on Handset manager all it says is trying to to connect to handset.
The com ports match, the cable type matches so is there something else I'm doing wrong.
i don't want to have to buy another cable if I can help it!

1. Check that the cable is properly connected to both pc and phone.
2. Check you have the right software for the phone.
3. Make sure your on the mainscreen.

I've got Handset Manager 8.0 and driver software from mobileaction.com.
Cable connection is ok, worked for firmware upgrade with no problems.
I think it may just be a service cable rather then a data cable.
There's 7 cables going to the 14 pins should there be more?
