I use the SL55, which has the same OS as the S56, and I can beam contacts from the Palm to the Phone. It doesn't seem to let me beam whole categories at once, but I can do it one at a time, which isn't that bad.

Yes, it's possible. I had trouble with this at first before I realized that you need to turn on "IrDA" on the phone in order to activate the IR port. (I was used to pda devices where the IR is "always-on".) You turn on the IR the same way as Bluetooth ("Menu-Setup-Connectivity-IrDA-Activate"). Note -- you can't have IR and Bluetooth active at the same time.
