(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey I've been trying to take apart my SL56 for practice since I'm getting a new housing. How do I disconnect the flex ribbon? I've read the PDF attached in vyse's thread but the picture and description is unclear. PLEASE HELP!!! My housing here is REALLY SCREWED and I wanna be able to install the new black one coming!

One last q, how do I take teh battery out of the back cover?

I just searched for these same answers as my black case shouldl be arriving this week.

Here's what I found:

This site has nice big closeup pictures with instructions for disassembling an sl55/56. He says the ribbon simply unplugs from the main circuit board:

Here's a thread where someone claims that the battery is glued to the casing only at the center, and you just pry it off carefully:

Thanks so much for the Bongowireless link, I've already seen that thread on the battery cover, but thanks for showing it to me in the first place! Do you know where I can get a hex #4 key to unscrew the grey part of the "screen slide"? You can see two of the screws I gotta take out when the phone is open on the back.

Is it a hexkey or torx? I know you can get both at hardware stores, in particular, Canadian Tire. I got a screwdriver set for $7.99 (cdn) that included T-6 and T-7 torx. Hexkey sets are cheap and come with quite a few of them..

the only place i found a T4 was at www.lara.com

Yeah I got it from there... the T4 is too big... I need a T2. I'm ordering it now.

I just swapped the housing with one I ordered from eBay. It takes two Torx screwdrivers, Torx-5 and Torx-3.. I just bought the Torx-3 today so it is definately what you need. Took about 20-25 minutes to do... pretty easy..

what colour did you get? the piano black?

Posted by: kloan

Unfortunately, it's not piano black.. it's a flat black.. piano black would look hot, but I think I'd be constantly cleaning it.. I'm sure smudges and finger prints would show up all the time.. anyway, check out my little review:

I have got to try this.......first the faceplate and then the guts to actually break open my phone!

ya, i was a little nervous doin it.. but being a little nervous is good, it makes sure you dont screw anything up!

you need torx 5

Torx 3 and torx 5 will make your life really easy...Pretty easy mod, take your time, and that ribbon connector pops straight off the board(it doesn't slide, pops off!).

Good Luck
