8900 autovolume? Noise canceling? Call volume varies...

I've got an audiovox 8900 and I notice that when I listen the volume on the headphone gets louder or quieter. If it gets quiet I turn the volume up till it sounds good a minute later it gets really loud. It seems to vary and makes me think there must be an auto volume at play. How in the world do I turn that off? It's driving me nuts.

If it does this while on the same call, then I'd take it in and get a new one.
If it does it on separate calls, I think that's normal. I've noticed that different phone lines have different volume levels.
