ok people - so i emailed that new innousa.net site with some questions regarding flashing, java, and assigning mp3 ringtones to different caller groups - i got good and bad news

good news - as far as flashing - yeah - you can flash the newest firmware into the phone but you need to go to a service center - it cannot be done through pc sync or ota - i know - old news - but at least now theres a service center in the country so at least we know where to go (oh, and for us here in chicago - ahem, braindead, theres a center in niles somewhere that can sell and service innostream! - dont know where that is exactly though)

bad news - only the inno 30 and inno 55 will support java and assigning multiple mp3 ringtones to caller groups - theyre still waiting on confirmation that this software will allow the same on the 80/90 series

heres the whole email:

"Greetings,

Hope you've enjoyed your INNO 90 and thank you for your patience while Inno USA has been setting up. Communications between us and HQ in Korea hasn't been fully aligned, and so, some customer support emails have been getting mis-routed. We apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused.

Inno USA is the North/Central/South American marketing/sales/support partner of Innostream Inc. in South Korea. We are temporarily located in Lincolnshire, IL and are actively looking for other offices nearby. Our website is still beta right now, as you can probably tell. We currently have several distributors located throughout the U.S. that are also being set up to flash phones for localized support. It sounds like you're in the Chicago area, which we do have a distributor for located in Niles who can service and sell Innostream products.

So to answer your first question, yes, the phones can be flashed. Unfortunately, they cannot be flashed via PC Sync or OTA. The phone must be brought in to an authorized service center, which will have the proper software/hardware to perform the task.

The good news is that YES, there is new functionality for JAVA (J2ME) as well as assigning different downloaded MP3 ringtones to different caller groups. The bad news (as of now) is that this functionality has been put into the INNO 30 and INNO 55. We don't have confirmation from the Engineering group that this capabilty will make its way to our current line of the 89/90/98. We are waiting on that information now.

No problem in answering your questions. Feel free to keep them coming - especially any requests/issues that you or other users may have. We are putting together a FAQ section for the site, so if you have any other questions, please pass them on. And stay tuned to the website for some soon-to-be released goodies and news on phones that have yet to be announced!

Thank you very much for choosing Innostream,

Inno USA Customer Support"

should i just get it flashed or what?

Posted by: ant-dizzle

I think you should get it flashed and let us other Chicagoans know how it goes. You don't know how happy you've made me. (Chicago!!!)

if java and ringtone assignment is enabled this will be the perfect phone!!!!

inno 99 and 90 is pretty much the same thing, so do u guys think it will work normally if i flashed my inno 99?

I wouldn't flash if I had the option. Unless you have an English phone which was crashing/buggy there isn't much point. The extra stuff they add to the phone has been standard in the Chinese models for a long time. Pretty much the flash is just for the English models to "Catch up" to the asian releases.

thats weird - i have an english model and up until this week, i had some of the oldest firmware (dec 2003) - and, i had absolutely no problems (besides the key lag which people have told me existed on the asian release phones as well)

and we all know that the asian model phones crashed just as much as the english phones

so i guess, all the firmware did was "junk it up" to match the asian release phones - im actually erasing all of those vis files because all they do it take away from memory...

They are very quick with replies, however they can't help me because my inno90 is "imported" from malaysia...

Does anyone know a free wap site that i can download those mmf or mp3 like ringtones from??? I'm desperate, I can't understand the language of the ones on my phone!
Muchhhhh appreciated!

Was wondering where all the other Inno users were. I just started up a Yahoo Innostream group because there's hardly any resources online for Inno owners. I just got an Inno 90 myself and its great, so I figured it'd be cool to have a place to share ringtones and info / advice about the phone. Seeing as there isnt a Inno Hofo forum.

http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/innostream/

I'm busy with work most of the time, but I'll try to get some stuff up on the site. It'd be great if someone could help with getting it going as well!
