Ewww. What's with the phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I finally saw the TCC Q285 in person the other day... someone at the mall was using their phone, and it caught my eye. Unfortunately, it caught my attention because of it's ugliness, not its beauty

The phone was a lot larger than I had imagined, and it is horribly designed... very square and blocky, and really cheap looking. The guy who had it told me it was indeed a TCC Q285 and tried to make it sound like it was the be-all end-all of cellular phones.. -laugh-

Oh well, I guess it just goes to show you that everyone has very different tastes in such personal extensions as mobile phones

some ppl doesn't care about size...........

you do know that it's a 4096 color screen and a tri-band.......

and nokia, ericsson haven't release any 4096 color scrren with tri-band until this fall.............................................. ..........

Yeah and Panasonic is releasing a 65K color display. Kills the T68i, and has the camera integrated, among other features. I think it will be worth the wait

Posted by: c/m

what model number??? for the panasonic one?

well there's like Samsung V100 and HEC 515 that have world phone features and 65k color screen

Posted by: lost_rebel

GD-87. The NEC and Samsung are CDMA correct? This phone is GSM

Posted by: urban4u

The Samsung 65k color screen phones [S100 and V100] are both triband GSM phones of course Not sure about the NEC model however.

Hmm... that Panasonic GSM model does sound interesting though... any more info about it? [price, release date, country, etc]

Posted by: lost_rebel

There will be different variants on the same model. All Tri-band GSM, DCS and PCS
GU-87 includes EOTD and GTT for the americas, AT&T and affiiates first
GD-87 lacks the above and is for Europe, at least Vodafone
GU-88 lacks the above but has special software to support the Chinese language, I have no idea.

Expected out in all markets before christmas and I have heard prices all over from $250 to $500 but I would expect that it depends on carrier subsidies. There has been other newsgroups on this board with more information, size weight, primary features etc.

Rumor has it that the FCC will give approval by the end of August.

The NEC 515 is surely GSM and Quad-band. 850/900/1800/1900

Must not have looked to hard. A google search on GD-87 gave a number of hits. One is http://uk.gsmbox.com/news/mobile_news/all/86155.gsmbox
Quad mode means nothing. For 850 GSM to work, it will require a change from the FCC and that is not coming any time soon. If 850GSM is available outside the US, I guess I am missing out. I rarely go to Canada and South/Central america and when I do, I do not want people to call me. Beside I would have GSM PCS if I did. I am not going to rehash all of the features yet again but there are on this forum, search out GD-87. I have not seen a display that is as clear as the one on the GD-87 I saw being demo'd at the AT&T store a couple of weeks ago. I have seen no other phone that looked this nice and had the features that this one had but I admit to only looking at the GSM/TDMA carriers. I have not seen either the NEC or Samsung at AT&T, Voicestream or Cingular so maybe there are available in Europe?

the picture in the article is the phone you were talking about? it doesn't turn me on i was wishing for a cool looking 65k color phone with camera but....

Posted by: c/m

the GD-87 interest me
hahahaha

i kind of like the design....it looks like one of those DoCoMo ones...or Foma phones..................

Posted by: lost_rebel

It would not suprise me about DoCoMo phones, Panasonic is one of the primary handset suppliers. People either like flips or not. My experience with the motorola flips has been horrid. This Pana phone, I really like. The picture is very sharp and crisp with beautiful color representation. Also the camera (as demo'd) took very clear, sharp pictures. Much better than the T68 add-on that it was compared to. Biggest question is will I be able to afford it?
time will tell

Another Jap-like phone.......
but I still prefer the internal antenna for the NEC 515....

Posted by: lost_rebel

Internal Ant. would be nice but I have never seen one that performs as well as an external. In urban environments it matters a whole lot less, but I live in a rural environment where I would love to have my old 3 watt analog brick back. I run an external ant mounted on my car and that helps but still the limiting factor is uplink signal degradation.

when is this phone coming out??
cuz i already have plan on getting Nokia 6610, Samsung V100 and NEC 515

so i would cancel one of those phone just to get teh GD-87

Posted by: lost_rebel

The word is end of Sept or begining of Oct. I have not seen anything official on that though. They were at Ericsson and another interoperability lab last week so they must be getting close

Posted by: GOGONeko

When is the phone coming out in America?

Posted by: lost_rebel

I have already put that information in this thread!
