What is the main difference about the 8610(Virgin Mobile) and the 8600(VZW). They are based off the same hardware right? Is it the software different? Because if i remember correctly the 8600 can play "real music" which I assume to mean mp3s? Is that because of software?

the 8610 is crap because its from virgin mobile, and the service sucks, everyone thinks it is all good and stuff. it really isnt that great. i like the 8600 more. its like the 8500 but upgraded wih color, it is better than the 8610 you would regret it if you got the 8610 i think.

Well service aside i am pretty sure you are right when you say the 8610 is based off the 8600. yes it hink they use similar hardware but i believe that the 8610 has a bigger main display. Try phoenscoop you may find out more info

i am not asking because I want to change. I am asking because I want to know what VM did to it to make it play mp3's. Because if the hardware is the same then maybe there is something missing that could be used to make the normal 8600 play mp3s.
