Remove "Verizon Wireless" Text from Idle Screen

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My phone displays "Verizon Wireless" towards the bottom of the Idle page which looks terrible overtop of my wallpaper. So I read through many of the posts and learned how to use the PST software. I have the software working and was able to retrieve the phone info. Looking through the tabs I could not find this text figuring I could just erase it. But I can't find it anywhere. I also tried setting 'Idl Scrn 3G Data Info' to false and in 'Idl Scrn 3G Data Text' I put in two spaces (it was blank). Any other ideas guys??

You need the eri file to get rid of it. Tell me if you find one.

First I needed to find out what an ERI is...

ERI (Enhanced Roaming Indicator) a feature to indicate whether a mobile phone is on its home system, a partner network, or a foreign (roaming) network. ERI capable handsets, when loaded with the proper software and PRL, will illustrate the home or roam condition using a banner with text on the handset display. While many phones can indicate home vs. roaming via an icon, ERI phones can clearly indicate the third "partner network" status, which may carry a different rate schedule.

Ok so how do we get this? Hard to obtain?

My first post was slightly misleading. We need to find an edited ERI. Brew Backups has some but they're not for the SE47.
I'd love to get rid of that banner so that I can actually see my wallpaper.

Ditto

Do a search in the LG forums for it, it may even be under the FAQ section on LG. If you have BitPim you can edit the ERI file. Since both phones use the brew system it should be the same file name and stucture for removing it. Just make a back-up first. If I had a Verizon slider I would try/look myself.

inothome was correct in saying that you need to use bitpim and edit the eri file. You'll need to copy it from the phone onto your computer, save a back-up copy of it, then use a program called WinHex to edit the file. You'll need to just replace the words "Verizon Wireless" with spaces. I attatched the ERI files from my T730, both regular and hexed, so you can see what must be done.

Good luck!...and post the ERI file if you can get it for the SE47

Success!
I downloaded the eri.bin file from my phone using BitPim7, hex edited it so that the 'Verizon Wireless' was replaced with all spaces, and then wrote it back to the phone. No more Verizon Wireless banner!

I can't find the eri file on my phone. I've looked thru every directory. What directory was it in for you?

Posted by: luvmyslider

Ooops never mind. After a second look I found it. Made the mod and it worked great! Thanks guys!

For the rest, the eri.bin file is under:
/nvm/prl

Can someone post the ERI file before its been hexed to remove Verizon Wireless??

Thanks

unedited eri is attached

I'm experimenting with trying to get the ERI on a VM to act like a Verizon Slider. Through the PST I've turned on ERI, I've uploaded the stock Verizon ERI file someone posted earlier, and I'm showing an ERI version in the VM Slider options.

Can anyone with a Verizon Slider post their PRL file, updated to 50175? That's the latest ERI PRL, and if ERI is really working on my VM Slider I'd expect to see "Verizon Wireless" invading my screen like others had in the pre-edited-ERI version. By defult the non-ERI PRL (50174 in my case) gets downloaded to the VM Sliders when on Verizon.

Thanks for this, it helped a lot

or, remove any text you want without replacing with spaces in a hex editor, and update the byte before the words being removed.

For example. the length of "Verizon Wireless" = 16 bytes.
Therefore, the byte before the word "Verizon WirelessA" will be a 10. Hex for 16. Replace the 10 with a 00.

Or, if you want to make it say "Verizon Sucks" for example, replace the 10 with 0D.

If you look in the recent PRL, you'll notice the roaming indicator is specified as 0x44. If you subtract 4 from that, that is the indicator currently used for "Verizon WirelessA". This is how the file is now different, the R not flashing anymore. They changed the indicator used as FR in the PRL. If you replace the 0x42 with 0x43, I'd bet the little flashing R would return for that SID entry.

Actually, I don't know if the Roaming indicator of 0x44 means a thing, but I do know if you replace the 0x42 for a given sid with 0x45, not 0x43, the R will flash again.

Brillant! worked perfect for me! downloaded your file, used BitPim to "overwrite" the old file and no more VZW banner at the bottom of m y SE47!!!!

BTW, I only recently got that VZW banner at the bottom of my phone when I did the latetst *228 PRL update. never was there before.
