Sending JPG image files

I've noticed that I can get images off my phone and save them... but then when I go to the file I saved them in and try to load them back to my phone... bitpim automatically converts the image file to bmp... so I cannot send them as picture messages... ect... does anybody know how to send an image as a jpg?
