Audiovox 8900 Low Battery Alert

My apologies to one and all if this question has already been answered, but I did a search and didn't find anything, so...

Does anyone know how to deactivate the audible beep that the phone makes when the battery gets low? If so, your guidance will be gratefully received!

I'd like to know this too!
(Just replying so I get e-mail notification!)

I don't mean to sound like a smart ×××, but are you sure that the tone you are hearing is a low battery warning? I run my battery done dry everyday & have never heard it beep.
Try going to Menu >7>1>3
Maybe it's one of those alerts that you are hearing instead. Turn them all off & see if you still hear the beep.

mine has never done this either - you sure you're referring to the 8900?

Posted by: TKS_CO

Yes, I'm sure I'm referring to the 8900.

However, it isn't doing this consistently, so it may be something else. But, the last time it did it, I opened it up to look at the display, and the onscreen message indicating low battery coincided with the beeps. Doesn't happen every time, though.

mine only beeps the low-battery alert when i am using the phone (talking).

Isn't it supposed to beep when you're talking on it? IT ALWAYS beeps for me when my battery is low and when I'm TALKING on it.

Mine beeps when the battery gets low. It beeps about every minute or so.

Just a thought...
When it beeps check the signal strength. My 8900 had a problem and it keep loosing the signal strength and beeping. Then a few seconds later (in the same location) the signal strength was full.

I swapped it for another and haven't had a problem since.

Well, my phone has continued to do the beeping thing when the battery gets low. It has done it several times since my original post, and each time it displays a battery low warning at the same time it beeps. It does this when I am not talking on the phone or even using it in any way, and usually in the middle of the night, which is driving me crazy.

Anyone have any other thoughts as to how to get rid of this, or is it possible that I just have a defective phone?

Mine does it too...even in silent or vibrate mode.

Was sitting in the class of a professor who flips out on any cell phone related disturbance when I first discovered this wonderful feature. This, coupled with the feature of playing the power off music when turning it off, put me between the proverbial rock and hard place. After a few low battery beeps I decided I would just pull the battery out and in. 5 seconds after doing so it decided to turn itself back on and play its wonderful startup music (another brilliant feature). Once powered back up it continued to low battery beep at me until I just bit the bullet and pulled it out my pocket and took the batter completely out. Things quickly got ugly when this a--hole figured out whose phone it was.

This is all while the phone was in an ironically named silent mode.

Do any of you folks suffering from the low battery beep have the new software update? (T095VEDM03_5.189) I have the new software & mine DOES NOT beep when the battery gets low. That's about all I can think of that might help. Did you try turning off your other alerts to see if that helps? (Menu>7>1>3)

Hi 'tiger'

Yes, I have the new software update (an ordeal to get it, but that's another story). And all of my other alerts are off and have always been off. I'd almost think it was just my phone, except that others have posted that they get the same thing. It's very annoying!

Your first 8900 might have had the FADE alert tone on. In the manual (p.59), it says when this tone is activated, it alerts you when the signal starts to fade.

Check MENU, 7)Settings, 1)Sounds, 3)Alert, 4)Fade On/Off.

Also, my phone has always made the annoying beep when the battery is low.

I believe it is supposed to make the beep to warn you that your batt. is low, if you look at the screen it also displays a prompt saying low batt. there is no way to shut this off, so just plug your phone in when it says low batt, or tell the person your talking to that your phone's about to die :-P thats what works for me

Believe it or not, I do understand the purpose of this. However, I would prefer that the phone just shut itself off when it needs to be recharged. I'm getting really tired of the xxxx thing deciding it wants to be recharged at 2:00 a.m. and beeping continually until it shuts itself off anyway.
