Guide To Opening T610 (Fixed)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Since the images dissapeared from the last one I have got a better image host account, so this one should stay!

[B]Needed: Torx 6 driver, fingernail or plastic blade to open case, blunt platic obkect like a lighter, very small screwdriver, cleaning cloth included with phone.

Firstly remove the battery, SIM and little mirror/rubber piece

Lift the top part of the case where indicated, it seems to be easier to lift the larger side first. I used a very small screwdriver to lever it, the type found for watch repair. Be careful, the aerial is behind here and don’t poke too far under to prevent scratching. While lifting push the cover towards the top of the phone, it will click then slide off. Another method is to use a lighter to puch the cash off, there is no chance of scratching anything then.

Remove the power button now.
The aerial will then slide off easily, this seems to be the best point for pushing it.

You are then left to take out the four screws with the Torx 6 driver.

Now to take off the front cover, this is quite easy, I just ran a finger nail along from the top and then the bottom of the left side.

Then you are left with this:

Next to move the screen, lift off the keypad rubber part, then gently pull the sides next to the screen apart(where marked), the screen should spring up slightly, hold it back and flick the ZIF lever for the keypad connection, it will then just slide out.

If you want to go further, the screen removes the same way by levering the ZIF. To take out the main board use the same technique used to remove the screen, it will just pop out.

The camera unclips and the connection is just a push fit socket. Only need to go this far for cleaning really.

To rebuild, just reverse the steps. Make sure you gently wipe off any dust from the screen and inside the case before you rebuild. The screen cable can be awkward to get back in, just be patient. Remember to replace the keys and screws! I have left these out before!
Good luck !

When you say the camera just comes off when you slide it, can i replace the camera if the one i have is messed up?

thanks very much! this will help out many many people.

Thanks man this is just what the doctor ordered

Posted by: RooDBwoY

man, it's a bit of a pig to get that antennae cover off! finally got mine open and was surprised to see how clean and perfect it was inside (minus the severe dust that on the screen through the joystick hole), bearing in mind i take no care with this phone whatsoever.

it seems to be really robust

Posted by: sidneylopsides

It is a bit stiff. Now to take apart the K700...

It is completly different to the T6xx phones, no visible screws.

I just got a load of cases from Hong Kong to replace some rather "Well Used cases" on some 616's. I was ×××× Perplexed when I got to the top. Being I was replacing case I almost resorted to "breakage" Glad I didnt, may have cased Antenna damage. Anyway, great work and saved me some serious aggravation.

Time for me to get the black oem housing from global mobility....sweet! Since I kind of messed up the original white hosuing from trying to get the antenna cover off...×××× cover.

Does anyone know where the mic is? My mic doesn't work after dissasembling it... Someone told me to clean it, but i have to know where it is first

Posted by: sidneylopsides

See on the top right corner of the last pic there is that little gold cirlce with a dot in it? Thats the connection for the mic, it will just look like a little rubber circle with two gold bits on it in the back of the housing. The connection is made that way so it doesn't matter which way it faces so don't worry about that.

should be a black rubber thing, i would have taken a picture of it but i don't wanna take my phone apart

Ok, my first post here....

First of all, thanks to all of you out there for answering so many questions we "every day" users ask. Seriously.

I've got a SE T616 and also a T637. Both are on Cingular, NY-Market. Both are unlocked. What I'd like to do is the following:

1.) Flash both phones to the latest (or best, please advise) firmware. The 616 is currently on R1A054. The 637 is on R3A025.
1a.) Can both phones use the same FW?
1b.) What will the new FW (respectively, if not the same versions) add to the phones in terms of speed, reception, and applications like Instant Messaging?
1c.) I've got no plans to do this on my own - I'll take it to a dealer. But for reference, what cable and software is needed to do it? I've got the SE USB cable, is that the one? What about software?

2.) Swap the inards from my T637 into my T616's case. I've seen a lot of threads describing the opposite process- which tells me I should be able to do what I want, but I just want to be sure and ask the experts before I crack 'em open. (I like the feel of the T616 much more.)

Is there anything else I don't know that I don't know that I should know?

THANKS AGAIN!
-V

just an add onto the how to thread.

if you push down on the top of the antenna its easier to remove.

so if the phone is like the above pic, right in front of you. press down on the right most tip of the antenna. then slide it to the right as posted earlier.

excellent write up

Hello,
This is my first posting to this excellent forum.

me and my associate are trying to replace the covers on our t610s, but we are not having much luck in trying to remove the aerial cover

we've tried using a credit card to lever the cover up, i've almost snapped the plastic using a small screwdriver and when pushing up, it simply won't budge

i've tried sliding my fingernails under the plastic to the left and right of the camera, then tried raising the plastic and pushing up in the direction of the phone

i am stumped as to how you remove this small piece of plastic from this phone and it is very annoying

could someone please elaborate slightly more on how to remove this aggravating piece of plastic? thanks

Where you have the screwdriver in that pic is right, on the other side is another point to get. At each of these are the clips that stop it sliding up, you do need quite a bit of force to move it. Once you have done it once you know what to do, and it gets easier. Also, if you do it too often it becomes loose.

thank you for replying

do you recommend a screwdriver or is a small flat piece of plastic better like a credit card?

thanks

Plastic would be better, less chance of damage. The idea of pushing with the flat end of a disposable lighter works pretty well.

hey guys, i was replacing the case on my t637 following this tutorial, and after i put it all back together the joystick won't work in the down direction, it moves but the phonebook doesn't come up as it used to, up left and right are all unaffected, any suggestions?

Posted by: absolutjenn

Hi all ... OK, I've followed and replaced the housing of my t610 to t630 white housing (for the most part) .. I'm having problems putting the antenna cover back. Any suggestions? Everything else went smooth as a baby's butt.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I've been tryiing to replace the cover of a T610 and now that i've done it, the joystick, the 2, the camera and the on/off button don't work. I think I did the keypad wrong.

The problem is, I've completely mashed up one of the screws. Can anyone think of a way of getting that screw out of the phone?

Thanks!

Posted by: absolutjenn

hi,
i've posted this in other threads but have had not responses. i replaced my t610 housing with a white t637 housing. everything went well except for i can't put the antenna cover on my phone. is there some trick to doing this. or, what's the best way to do this? please, help me... thanks!

Posted by: sidneylopsides

Have you re-seated the internal antenna correctly? If this is not right you will not be able to slide the cover back on. Otherwise it should just slide back on the same way the old one came off.

Posted by: Gaunt911

the white antenna cover (back plate) when you notice the sides, there are some grooves, similar to the grooves in a bureau (clothes dresser's rail)... just have to follow the rail .. which has some notches in it... when you align up the grooves after maybe 5-10 minutes should be able to figure out how to snap down the white antenna cover.... after you figure it out the first time it gets easier.

Posted by: absolutjenn

hmmm, ok, thanks! I'll try that...

I'm replacing the case for a friend of mine and I'm having the same problems as some other people posted. Can you explain how to use the end of a disposable lighter (have any pics?) to remove the cover?

Thanks!

The lighter is used to apply pressure to the edge of the case toward the bottom of the phone. I used the edge of my keyboard tray on my computer desk... It's wood and didn't damage anything, the cover just popped right off. As far as people having trouble with their keypads, the aftermarket keypads are just A LOT cheaper made than the oem keypad. If you compare the two, the sony keypad is reinforced with plastic, the squishy aftermarket ones aren't... I ended up using the aftermarket case with the oem keypad. Looks good and works just like the original. good luck!

Great set of directions. Worked for me and I am now the proud (LOL) owner of a white T637.

thank you so much for this guide, i bought a phone cover off ebay and it came with a opening tool which i think DRAMATICALLY gave me an advantage, i dont think i would have managed it with just a screw driver so props to you guys that did.

but basically this tool managed to let me just pop it off without fear of breaking it.

(thats not to say i wasnt worried)

i included an extremely bad photo from my webcam, just to give you a jist, but it is extremely thin.

as for the aerial i'd say it was more of a lifting and sliding than just sliding.

but everything else was very easy. thanks guys.

(funny moment when you FINALLY get the aerial cover back on to look down and see the power button sitting on your lap and think F&%&*""$ )

cheers guys
