Alternate Slider Data Cable Verified

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok after reading on here and finding mixed information I decided to give the LG VX6000 cable a shot. It works, and I put a ringtone on my phone tonight. I have the Alltel SE-44 but I don't see why it won't work on the SE-47. Here are the specifics on the cable.

Purchased at Radio Shack
FutureDial - For LG models 1200, VX6000
Cable 19.
Part # - 170-0792

Cost - $21

The cable is a usb cable with a small black box inline.

Let me know if you have this exact cable and can't get it to work.

If you install the future dial drivers first, when you plug in the cable it may appear that nothing happens, but if you go to your device manager, under ports there should now be a usb-serial port listed there.

Thanks,
Ben

Because you are talking about 2 DIFFERENT CABLES you guys!!! Can't you see this. It is driving me nuts and causing people lots of trouble.

Cirenj has been claiming that the USB, Radio Shack cable phones, MADE FOR KYOCERA PHONES by Future Dial (as seen here) works. Well, I promise it does not!!! I owned it and it does not even fit. So have others confirmed it. End of story. Cirenj may have a Radio Shack cable, it may be USB and it may be made by Future Dial, but it is NOT the one they make for the Kyocera phones. He must have an LG version but has been posting it in topics about the cable for Kyocera phones.

Benanthony made a claim for a USB cable, from Radio Shack, made by Future Dial, BUT IT IS FOR LG PHONES!!!! Thus, it seems to fit and work.

Go back and read these posts and put it togther yourselves. Topic 1 and Topic 2 notice they both refer to the RS cable that is USB for Kyocera!!!

BTW, what is even whackery here is that Benanthony quotes part number Part # - 170-0792 and says with "The cable is a usb cable with a small black box inline" - but when you do a serach at RS for this cable, it HAS NO INLINE BOX!

I know I was just as suprised as most, I went to the radioshack website also, and there picture does not show the cable as having the box. But when I went to the store, sure enough it had the box.

As I was reading through the future dial documentation, I read that all of there cables except for a couple work on the usb-serial concept, so my guess is that the radio shack picture is just wrong.

I really don't know what to think about that though, I would recommend finding one at a local radio shack, so you can verify the part number and the description of the cable first.

Thanks,
Ben

this is great to know! now people won't have to pay 50$ for a Kyocera data cable ....anyone want to buy a Kyocera cable?

I can confirm that the cable fits the phone, I went out and purchased it today. It also DOES have the black box.

I will try connecting it to the PC later tonight.

SUCCESS!! I do confirm:
1. it (RS USB cable for LG) works
2. it DOES have an inline black box
3. I have used it with BitPim and Gagin
4. I have added ringers and images

Now the issue is backing up stuff as both BitPim and Gagin allow me to see the tree structure on my phone but only bitPim allows me to transfer to the phone. I cannot seem to Get Data nor can I use the cool GUI to transfer, I have to use the odd tree structire under FileSystem and do the 'righ click' to add and delete files. very archaic, but works. I would like to get the data (via Data > Get Phone Data...) but I always get errors.

I can also confirm that the cable works. I used Bitpim and Gagin, and they both worked great.

Sorry Kyocera, but this cable is $20 less....

Now if someone could just tell me where to get the Kyocera Desktop Software so I can sync my phonebook, life would be grand.

If you find it, use with caution if you use Time Pauses in your #s. The software translates these to "T"s. Then when you sync with the phone, it converts the Ts to 8s. So when I did this I had to go back through all my #s and change all the 8s back to pauses. A big pain because I use the phone for business and many of my #s had pauses for one reason or another. I believe I read another post about this too. Well it's true. So needless to say for me this software is useless. For you maybe it's not an issue. Just be aware.

were you able to download and backup your data with either? I cannot. I can only send and delete ringers and images and such. When I try to use either of these tools I get errors when i try to get the data from the phone. If you can, what are your settings please.

- what driver did you install and from where (I used the one from Future Dial, but it asks to install based on phone so I just guessed)
- any phone settings you changed used?
-what versions of the software (I use the latest gagin and both the .6 and .7 buils of bitPim).
-what phone do you tell BitPim is being used?

it is weird that I can send stuff via the Filesystem, but cannot get any phone data from it.

Posted by: benanthony

I wish BitPim would work with our phones, but the only part of it that will work is the filesystem.

BitPim was actually designed for LG's but since they use the same chip, reading the filesystem is the same. But from what I understand reading the phonebook and all that stuff is completly diffrent so where out of luck.

Thats why I am trying to find a download or someone to email me the Phone Desktop Software. I have way to many contacts to type in by hand.

Thanks,
Ben

That is what I suspected - just did not know if others got the regular GUI to work or if they used the Filsystem like I did. if you get it, let me know. I have tried with Limewire to search software, but no dice.

I'm happy to verify that the LG cable from Radio Shack does indeed work. Limited functionality with Bitpim but I uploaded ringtones and wallpapers to my slider with no problems. Only $20.99 so quite a bargain for me since i don't need the address sync or all that.

Posted by: smittyinside

Another confirmation here. I was able to upload a ringer to my phone with no hassle using the RS LG cable.

Posted by: havanahjoe

Yet another confirmation. Radioshack cable using the part number on the first post works perfectly. Used drivers from kyocera site (the ones that end in a P). The cable DOES have the black inline box.

i ordered this today. i hope it works great deal if it does...but I'll be pissed if it doesn't

Posted by: Jiggs

Will this cable work on any other phones? I have a Phantom and a 2235. Just curious.

Posted by: jaguar_wsc

so any of these will work? the driver cd and all?

Posted by: Jiggs

Will this work on the SE44???

Posted by: greese

Works great with the SE-44. I have one from Alltel. I downloaded the Automatic USB Installer from FutureDial and told it I have a VX6000 and it loaded it up as COM4. The Kyocra PST software works great with it.

Now to find BitPim and Gagin.

Post back with result on cable bobbo21 a.s.a.p so others can take advantage of this great deal! Hope it works
