SCP-6000 call screening problems

I've had problems recording my custom outgoing message for call screening. Most attempts just produce a message that's a dull hiss. After many tries I got it to record an outgoing message by a) overwriting, as opposed to erasing & re-recording, and b) letting the recording go the full 18 seconds (ie not hitting OK to stop the recording).
Anyone esle have problems like these?
