Circuit Busy?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Tupac_Shakur

Why is the Telus phone ringing then the message.

"All Circuits are Busy, Blah Blah" At 11:45 Pm in Calgay.

Could that many people be using the phone at that time?

I tried total of 6 times in 15 minutes and was unable to make a Two blocks south west of 14st and 17 ave S.W.

Finally gave up and used my Rogers line to place the call.

Note: I have now experienced this Circuit Busy problem a few times now, different locations. What exactly is the problem here?

Posted by: You_suck

This message usually means that the PSTN lines out from the switch are full. Usually Telus will wait for a certain threshold before adding more resources. If you don't here a message but your phone displays a message "System Busy", or somehtimg like that this means that the cell is to busy. There are other sources of blocking but these are the most commen.

what kind of phone was it? was it analog?

What........the once mighty telus has the same issues as little Fido, I can't believe it

Posted by: Tupac_Shakur

I am not happy with Telus at all, they are spending millions of dollars on retarded pony dancing advertisement and making bids for Fido, but they can't spend money to fix their network. I dont know how made the policy of eliminating competition rather then working on their network.

I have severe problems with Telus Signal in N.W Calgary. Am I paying for Analog?

Also what's up with ADSL service.

Now they are blocking ports, pings are going up. They haven't upgraded their service while Shaw is offering 5mbit xtreme package for the same price as 2.5 package.

The future is not friendly at all

Better watch it, you might get banned for being anti-telus in the telus forum. I commented on this with my gf's phone, and i basically got called a liar. I told them the exact same thing as you. Circuits busy and horrible NW coverage..

Why should I be Banned?

I have done nothing wrong according to the rules.

I am just posting my concerns on the direction Telus is taking which has me confused.

Judging from past experience, i've noticed that whenever i have brought up a problem regarding telus service, i have been flamed like crazy. And i'm not the only one..

No one should have flamed you, this also goes to the others who got flamed because they reported their findings.

All I am doing by posting this is to get more knowledge about the circuit busy issue from users on these forums.

I have already reported "Circuit Busy" and "Poor RF in N.W Calgary" to Telus countless times without them taking any actions. So did my friends/colleagues. There has been no action taken from Telus. So I seek Howard forum members advice here.

I have been disturbed by the direction Telus has taken.

I still have hope that the Future is Friendly from Telus in the near future, but I will be honest, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I had that problem a few times, and dismissed it as normal... i dont think the number of times you get it is normal though!

Could you please indicate some of the areas in NW Calgary you are having problems?
I plan on getting a telus pay & talk account for some clients, and would like to know if some of the problem areas include the Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch and newer Evanston, Creekside and Kincora neighbourhoods.

Didn't I just see you in the Rogers forum the other day complaining about how bad Rogers was in Calgary too?

In your opinion, does anyone offer good coverage in Calgary?

Aren't his Telus Mobility problems objective? Getting an error message constantly on your phone makes it pretty clear that there is a problem on Telus' end.

Sorry, but I'm always a little wary of brand new members who suddenly appear in multiple forums complaining about these types of issues.

In my opinion, I would say Telus and Bell are fairly similar, while Rogers is not as good. I havent recently tried Fido service so I wont even comment.

Posted by: Nokia 6188

I notice your profile says you are currently testing Mike. How is Mike service in Calgary compared to Telus PCS/Cellular/Analog and Bell PCS/Cellular (I don't think Bell has Analog out west), and compared to Fido.

I am under the impression that Mike has the biggest coverage in Alberta due to the mining and service industry out there. Is this true in your experience?

I am currently doing extended testing on Telus, Rogers & Fido network here in Calgary.

I found problems with all carrier, nobody is perfect here. Although I find Rogers and Fido are leading Telus for RF stability inside the city. I do have major problems with Telus in Panaroma Hills, Scenic Acres, Areas behind Hidden Valley which include the areas you mentioned. I have complained about the Circuit Busy a few times now, sometimes you are unable to make/recieve calls for 30 - 60 minutes. You might as well try out Telus pay as you go yourself, remember one of the biggest weakness of Telus is that they wont let you forward Pay as you go.

The biggest problem so far is that you will get signal, then a block down in the same area, you could barely hold on to digital signal. I have to stand by the window on my house to make a call on my Telus phone.

I am currently searching that answer myself.

Rogers so far has good reception but the volume on their headset is very weak. 1900 reception sucks, must use 850 phone. Service in N.W calgary in alrite, hardly could get a signal at Market Mall.

Fido has good service in Calgary except they are not great in N.E Calgary from Whitehorn and north.

Telus has alrite service in Calgary except there is problems in newer areas, spotty coverage in N.W. It is very weird, you would have perfect reception, then two blocks away you would have 1 bar on your phone, what I hate the worst is that the phone will not switch to Analog, but at barely holding on to a digital signal, it wont recieve calls or be able to place calls. Then you are getting Circuit Busy message played to you at random times in and around calgary. Not Good.

Bell has same coverage as Telus although they are better in some places then Telus where they have their own towers but here in N.W they are sharing Telus towers, Their phones have the same problems as what I reported with the Telus phones.

Now I have given myself two weeks to test all networks, I will post a detail review of my findings then.

I might be a new user but I have done nothing wrong by posting the problems I am facing on Telus. I am looking for a company that could provide the best cell phone service provider for our small business with 60 employees.

Cost, Service, Reliability & Customer service will be all factors in choosing a provider.

If Fido fixes their N.E sector, I say they will be the best in Calgary, no idea, have complained few times, nothing had changed.

Every single carrier out here in Calgary has their issues.

Lets start with Rogers...

Huntington Hills NW! Who would have thought that such an older area with coverage sites from Deerfoot, Beddington and 14th St would have such poor GSM coverage... Even TDMA sounds like crap. Downtown Core... 5th Ave corridor bad bad bad signal.. GSM seems to suffer from the concrete jungle we are proud to call DT Calgary. (Phones Used Nokia 3360, 6160, V60g, T280, Mot v300)

Bell

Rocky Ridge... Sure it works but have you tried heading along Stoney Trail back to Crowchild... Odd. Yes you have Analog access in Calgary on Telus Towers... Check your System ID! 16420 = Bell 16384 = Telus. If you are out of a major centre out west you will be roaming on Telus. Example. Airdrie has a tower located at the Co-Op.... Head east along HWY 567 for 1.7km's and you then are on Telus once again. IMO if you have a Bell phone out here you have the best chance of keeping a signal. Where as with Telus you are stuck with their network only.
(Phones Used Vox 8600, Vox 8420 (I think), Sammy A500)

Telus

Telus PCS has always suffered from the effects of Nose Hill Park.. The Hamptons, Edgemont etc... Have some spotty coverage but that is only due to the tremendous change in topography in that part of the city. You can't expect any carrier to invest in an extra 3 or 4 towers in such a small area. Other then that you wont find many places where you have a problem using the Telus Network. Remember Telus is AGT Mobility and have been here since late 70's early 80's. They have the best coverage in Calgary and Edmonton and that is simply because they were here first.
(Phones used. Sammy A540, A520, Mot T731, LG5450, Vox 8900, LG TM520)

Mike

Well it works in Market Mall but just enough to get a call. (Neither Fido or Rogers will work in any of the stores at MM for that matter... Must be a Sim card thing LOL...) 14th ST NW at McKnight all the way to Charlswood pretty much useless.. BUT... Rural Coverage can not be beat. Strathmore, Keoma, Irricana, Beiseker, Penhold, Acme, Linden etc... These Mikes will out perform any other phone out there.
(Phones used i205, i1000, i700, i730, i95cl)

Fido

Enough Said. Excellent outdoor coverage unless you have a change in elevation or topography. Indoor coverage is just about as useless as Rogers.
(Phones used Nokia 3390, Mot v60g, Mot T280)

These are my findings and feelings. If you don't agree, good! If you do agree, even better!

A cell phone is a device that can't be relied upon to be your only source of communication. Every carrier will have its advantages and dissadvantages. You will never find the perfect carrier because they are all flawed. Coverage requirements are a personal thing and will depend on each user. That being said, if you aren't happy with Telus... Go somewhere else, same with Rogers, Fido Mike and Bell... If none of them make you happy then best retire your cell phone and go back to a CB or Ham Radio or maybe an old 800mhz trunked system. You can complain about the coverage and network issues all you want, but when it comes down to it, I don't think any of these companies could care less about your problems. If you aren't happy then you will go to another carrier and be just as unhappy. You signed a contract, you didn't do your homework, now you are locked into a 3yr contract with a phone and network you aren't happy with. Is there anyone to blame? YES YOU! - Remember coverage maps are estimates and it would be very difficult to be 100% exact because as we all know the atmosphere has alot to do with radio waves and their ability to travel. So on a clear day your phone might not work the same as it would if it was overcast.

Sorry to rant so long but I have seen so many people complain that they are unhappy no matter what carrier they are with. The answer is simple, if you don't like it LEAVE!

Cheers

PS - If you want to keep your number and change carriers and that is your only reason for staying you have issues. I dont care if you have had the same number for the last 20 years, print up some new business cards and start handing them out. Keep the phone active for a couple months and inform people of your new number. Quit making excuses! Sure WNP would be nice but is not a reality YET.

Just my 2 cents

I am not at all impressed with MiKE in Calgary, in fact I'm taking the loaner phone back on Saturday. MiKE service is the worst of the providers I have used, and the only other one I don't currently use is Rogers. Maybe MiKE is great in rural areas, but in Calgary the signal is often very poor..........sometimes even non existent.

You are right, Rogers seems to have problems in N.W, I can't believe they dont have decent reception in market mall, phone is mostly searching for signal.

I was lucky enough to get the 65 unlimited plan on Bell, so far I find their RF better then Telus. Seems like their own towers help, and when they dont have Bell towers in the area, phone roams on Telus, but here in N.W, Bell roams on Telus.

Telus

I disagree, N.W Is not a small community, I don't think they have worked on the network up here for year or two. The problem lies in more areas then you mentioned. It is not a small area, you must do your research before posting. The problem is huge here. I am in Panaroma Hills and I can't even make a call without standing next to the window.

No comments on Mike. Have never used it.

Fido

C'mon over to Varsity mostly the U of C area and Market Mall my buddies over at Telus can't even get a signal in the mall to do the conversions. Kinda funny when they sit out front with a charger plugged into the outside plugs searching.

I am looking for the Fido phone more often now after I learned that they don't suck the way Telus dealers make it sound like.

Hey I guess we are on the same page here, although I am not cell phone crazy like some members on these boards, I was given the job to find the best provider to service our business. I was very surprised at Telus, I thought they were the best but my finding prove they are not. So far I have found that no carrier is without its share of problems. I just want to pick the best provider out of the four, so far I am looking seriously at Rogers and Fido. Dropped Bell & Telus.

Bottom line: if you have a weak spot consistently, please call TM's network team and report it. They do track all calls and I'm sure that if enough complaints are made in the area, it would get someone's attention.

Bell has a site on the hydro tower at Crowchild and 12 mile coulee Rd as well as a co-location on the Microcell tower up by the spyhill landfill site. These sites provide excellent coverage in the Royal Oak / Rocky Ridge areas.

Agreed as far as Telus' lousy coverage is concerned, but I think they should have invested more in their network coverage in the far NW! Bell has simply done a better job in covering these areas, since they are only a bit spotty in Edgemont.

I have complained about the service issues in my area for while, couple of my friends that also live near me complained. Nothing was ever done. They obviously know the problem exists but have choosen not to do anything about it.

It means Telus has failed you and that you should switch to either Fido, Bell or Rogers. OK well maybe not Rogers
