How To For CRICKET 8900

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: freelane704

well i know how to get the phone to read the file....you have to add it to the shared file and add it to the text file (without the text file being updated the file will never show on the phone) brew does this but does not support bci images....theres a pattern in the text file that i see that goes in aphabetical order but the next file starts at a different point..i'm working on it.....this is also why brewsky makes tones dissaper sometime...there not gone, theres just no text file to veiw the tone on the phone

Are there any Cricketeers who may know how to enable the Web (Left-Scroll) Button to take advantage of the WAP addresses listed everywhere?

I can program the IP and port using ##BROWSER (##2769737) {END}, but cannot get past the "Service Not Available" screen...
Maybe there's a way to override the disable???

Posted by: isx10

Maybee start a new thread for that question I'm also with cricket and would love to use WAP also! or Brew!

Posted by: cricketsubcontr

ok people in regards to web access (i.e. WAP) cricket does not support that function on the phone and the funtionality of it was removed by the factory! Now as to BREW with cricket. It will be launched in most cricket area's except for Cali. It is a feature that will have to be added by calling cricket. It is schedualed to start Sept 28. You will be charged $10 to add the feature in which $5 will be posted to your acct to purchase thru brew. I Will try to post the actuall markets this weekend! Sorry been gone so long but this 'puter has been going on the fritz!

You sure are a party pooper!
I hope it is possible in the future, as we learn more about the coding, someone can write custom firmware.

My understanding is that they are testing web access on a trial-basis in Winston-Salem and maybe also Durham, in the North Carolina areas. And word has it that they may have a roaming contract with Cingular by the end of the year. (all good reasons I went with the 8900.)

---

Also, DO we really need (Cricket's) Brew feature if we can use BitPim and Brewsky8900? I would rather have a way to re-program the button to do something useful.

So... anyway, when is there gonna be a SDK tool kit for the 8900?

Most of the Instant Messengers now (ICQ, Yahoo, etc...) have templates to allow you to send Instant text Messages to users' cell phones (text message capable device).

WHO do we lobby to get them to add Cricket to the List?

It works for all my friends that use AT&T, Cingular, and Verizon. I thought there was some similarity of a standard protocol format for sending text messages, the difference being some have more or less a number of allowable characters and size.

I would also like to add a form on my website to send/receive text messages. And it would be really cool, if I could have users blind forward me text messages. (they would not know my destination number)

And BTW, is there a resource for designing a site to be WAP enabled, as are Howard Forums, Yahoo, etc... ?

Yeah, I know, I should have broken this into 5 different topics....

."Most of the Instant Messengers now (ICQ, Yahoo, etc...) have templates to allow you to send Instant text Messages to users' cell phones (text message capable device).

Well a good way to start is to contact CriKet themselves at customer.relations@cricketcommunications.com but don't expect anything more then a form letter

My understanding is that they are testing web access on a trial-basis in Winston-Salem and maybe also Durham, in the North Carolina areas.

This is not true. There are a few brew app's availiable that will download certian info into your phone i.e. Accu-Weather program and what not but as for actuall internet access this is not true just a rumor.

And word has it that they may have a roaming contract with Cingular by the end of the year.

actually cricket has roaming but it is built into the service and you don't see it. Since cricket is pre-paid I doudt that we'll ever see roaming from cricket.

Posted by: cricketsubcontr

oh by the way sorry if I'm a party pooper!

One of my Cricket reps gave me that info. An actual trial date I don't know. Since everyone else has it, I see no reason why they wouldn't eventually look into it to stay competitive. Plus it would definately be a revenue generator, say at $9.99 a month or whatever marketing says they could squeeze!

The debate on that was how they would bill. possibly either a credit app account, or a large deposit and so much per minute.

I did notice on my accrued minutes, there was a roaming call for 35 seconds, but that may be the initialization time on the original setup.

I would be more interested though, if I traveled to another cricket service area and had available service.

BTW, my service is not PRE-PAY... My bill is due at the end of the service cycle. (1st day of the next month billing cycle) That may be a recent change in billing. An account I had 2 years ago WAS pay upfront.

Posted by: cricketsubcontr

trust me for most purpose it's pre-pay I know all to much about the billing! When you get suspended or need an extension or wanna complian about the bill guess who you get to talk with??? Not you neighborhood elf that's for sure.

Posted by: SnoopyII

Cricket is what it is. All you can eat local service. I use my Cricket for that purpose and use my T-Mob pay as you go for coverage outside my local area, email, WAP, etc.

Posted by: SnoopyII

Heck I will be happy when Cricket offer the Audiovox 8910 or 8920 (like the 8900 but with a megapixel camera and 262k color LCD)

Hope that some finds this helpfull!

Umm... Please be merciful, I have many newbie questions here (I don't even have a usb cable for my phone yet. -- Also, some of my questions may be kind of ill-suited for this particular forum, but I ask anyway cuz you never know ): If you can access files in the cdm8900 then can't you access the application files too? Wouldn't it be possible for a verizon user to upload openwave app files and a cricket user to download them ? (and thus use WAP) I know there must be extra registry-type keys in there that show which programs are installed, but that could be edited too, right ?

Also, has anyone looked at the brew SDK ? I'm unable to d/l both 3.0.3 and 3.0.1 -- right now, they've got some sort of error. If anyone posts a valid download link, I'll headbang at least one song in your name.

Anyway, anyone know if tcp/ip connectivity is in the SDK ? Has anyone tried the gcc hack ?

And has anyone actually tried Brew ? Is it worth the $? I know it's going to be released in my town in the next three days, but I'd rather make whatever apps I'd want, instead of paying per download.

Thanks !

Yo CID! long time no see. I check in from time to time but rarely post as I am busy selling & buying on eBay and hacking my Moto V600 (much easier and way more customizable than the 8900.

My CricKet "all you can eat" local phone is still my workhorse for day to day use but I need the Moto V600 also for checking email and bidding/monitoring my eBay auctions.

yeah been a little while. hows everyone?

Posted by: aud8900owner

i just wanted everyone to know that it makes me sick how you praised cid for his work, which really wasn't his at all. just as neomuzik stated, it's already been done and if you must know there is a much easier way to do all of this... install brewsky 8900

Posted by: PackCat

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how to upload/use animations on the 8900, and possibly a seed file to initalize.

Also, has anyone gotten the phonebook to transfer, or know how to edit it on the computer and upload?

thanks,

Posted by: aud8900owner

I use PC Sync TX 95-C. If you cannot find this, post here again and I will upload it for everyone.

you're a retard....you might wanna check your dates and the start of this thread. cid started with the 8900...brewsky knows this and so does cid, so i will say no more

as far as ani's its in this post, a few pages from the start.

i dont think anybody has ever gotten the phonebook to work right. nothing but trouble, so i would be happy with what we do have working and not with what we dont

Posted by: SnoopyII

Brewsky tended to be buggy for me and never really worked right. CID's ringtone tool and other methods always worked for me.

Compared to the ease of use of the readily available software for the Motorola VXXX series, working with the 8900 is really a pain but I still love my little cricKet. It suits it's purpose and is the best available for cricKet.

Cid's ringtone tool has made my phone of the few customized 8900's in my area.

thanks for the defend glockjs and snoopyII

No problem CID...we need to help out with facts whenever people want to get it twisted.

Posted by: cid420420

as soon as i figure out how to edit the files in the nvm/nvm folder which will also allow us to edit and backup the phone book

Posted by: dilligaff

I recently purchesed a vox 8900 on Oct 20,2004 from Cricket. In the atempt to change ringtones I screwed something up in the file system. Every thing is fine but it errors when tring to munipulate ringtone files. The phone works fine. I can still upload ringtones. But cant browse them after I upload. The first thing I did was backup files. I tried to restore the whole file system. Same error when it trys to write ringtones. My question is can I return exchange phone for a new one since its under 30 days. What would be a valid reason? Poor reception problem maybe? Or?

Posted by: SnoopyII

Way to go! Thanks for all of the hard work CID.

Posted by: dilligaff

I enabled brew and downloaded tetris and two other ringtones. Here is a bump of my brew file. Not sure what can be done with it. But here you go.

My Brew apps are located at: http://www.packcat.org/audiovox8900/brew

but it is my understanding is that they require a .mif file AND a Brew sub-directory of the same name as the .mif file

Your's only contained the .mif files themselves.

Cricket will offer you a $20 refill on your Brew account, if you have to replace a phone... At least they did for me... but I had $40 worth of Brew investment...

As far as sharing with your buddies, you are correct.
It is easier to change your ESN than it is to break the encryption.

I had a similar issue (under win98 - it appears to have sorted itself under XP)
I seemed to have no trouble on the first try, but once I'd disconnected the USB cable, if I needed to hook it up again, I'd get the same problem - restarting windows seemed to do the trick. Not exactly a spectacular fix, but win98 isn't exactly a spectacular OS either...

Try using LG-VX7000 as the phone type you wont be able to do anything but navigate the filesystem, but it will be sufficient enough so you can upload ringtones.

I have only used my tool the things i would suggest is find the tone and overwrite it with a new tone in bitpim or if the filename has a .mp3 extension change it to .mid or make an empty text file and overwrite the download_snd.txt file with the blank one(NOTE: DO NOT DELETE DOWNLOAD_SND.TXT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES JUST OVERWRITE IT)
then delete the tone with bitpim(ONLY THE TONE FILE)

try to delete the sms and try the process again are you sure you are putting the files in the mms directory and have no other mms messages on your phone at the time it definitly sounds like you got the first part right overwriting the sms message because it is showing up in your inbox it sounds like its freezing when it tries to find the media files in the mms directory
get back to me about it let me know how it goes

well the next step would be to convert the tone to a mono mp3 and change the example.mp3 file extension to example.mid the instructions to upload the tone to the phone are in this thread

there is no current way to bypass the brew 2.0 encryption so there is no way to pirate software its probally just a typo i have played with the phone personally and really didn't find any trace of it just a couple of empty directories which are probally standard

Hey guys anyone know how I can add wall papers to my Audiovox 8900 I have a usb cable and use Brewsky to add my ringtones and that works great but cant view wallpapers it says it uploades to phone but when I try to set wallpapers on my phone I cant see the pics I uploaded. My cell service is threw Cellular One/Alltel also I have no clue on Bitpim if someone can tell me ho to on that I would love it thanks in advance.

cid420420,
So pretty much u cant even back up the games u currentually have on the phone on a brew 2.0 system that crazy though u should be able to at least for personal use not actually to trade them. Cricket clicks just expensave for games i mean 7 bucks for unlimited use for a game thats insane they should only be 2-3 dollars i remember only paying that on sprint. Is there even a way to downgrade the software to brew 1.1 so it work or no.

Posted by: xwf_tdo

I read through a lot of pages but yet have not found a MCL for my cricket 8900. Does anyone out there know it? I've tried using BITPIM but it keeps giving me an error.

I need some help getting animations on my 8900. I followed all of Cid's steps and there is definately a message in my inbox before I start overwriting the files. After I reboot my phone and come back to the messaging menu, there isn't even any messages there at all, not even the one I had in there. BTW, is this procedure only for Cricket owners or all 8900 owners?
Any suggestions?

Posted by: Gene_L

Would someone please help me. I finally decided to jump on the cell phone bandwagon. My wife bought me a CDM-8900 because I said all I wanted was a phone that will store numbers and make phone calls.

Now that I've had it a while I asked her to get me the texting package and she just upgraded me to the text, picture and Internet package. The phone is capable of doing all that (the buttons are there), but I guess this is a Verizon phone and we have Cricket. The Cricket customer support told me that the phone indeed has the capability but because I got it changed over to Cricket they can only guarantee phone and texting. Photos start to send but fail. When I push the Web button it just says "service not available".

I know there has to be a way but Cricket won't tell me because they just want me to buy one of their phones. Some evil genius in here has the technical know-how to make this work. Please help me out either in this thread or by emailing my spam account at harvest.this1(at)gmail(dot)com.

ps. My menu only has:

1. Phone Book
2. Recent Calls
3. Messaging
4. BREW
5. Media Gallery
6. Settings
7. Tools
8. Utilities
9. Camera

Software version: T095CK3T27_4.195
Hardware version: TX-95C_REV_03

Thanks,
Gene

6. Settings
7. Tools
8. Utilities
9. Camera

Hardware version: TX-95C_REV_03

Thanks,

I've been swapping phones from service to service for years now, and I know that the only things i've been able to successfully get to work is the basic TXT and voice services.

I had one of these CDM8900's originally from cricket, and picture messaging was supposed to work, but never did.. and it was never swapped.

The "Web" service on this phone is a joke... Cricket told me when I activated the phone the web service on the phone would never work because it was a severely outdated program on the phone, and couldn't be updated. Not that it would have done me any good, cricket service in my area sucks.
