It says "coming soon" at the bottom and the futuredial link gives an error.

Radio Shack catalog # 17-792. I have it and it works with FutureDial drivers (download), BitPim and VX3200. Radio Shack calls it USB Data Cable for VX6000. Packaging says FutureDial #19. I bought it from a local Radio Shack store.

i did this last night

sanded off the keys ( raised area's ) on my lg4500 cable

and plugged it into my wifes lg3200

I can do a file system download with bitpim

and access the phone book too.

over write some sms files, but the new ringtones still are not working..

someting not kosher with my mp3-mid-dat

have fun, but do a complete file system save before you play with anything..

You know...Just In Case..

OK, I got the cable recommended above for my VX3200. I tried installing the driver for it from futuredial.com. I downloaded BITPIM. But it gives me an error, saying it can't find the phone. Maybe I need an idiots guide as to which driver to install, etc.?
Thx for any help.

With the cable plugged in, make sure it shows up in your device list as a com port -
Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Ports>Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4)

It may not show up as COM4 but BitPim should find it on whatever port it installs on. If it doesn't show up, you don't have the drivers installed correctly. Also, in BitPim the phone type should be "Other CDMA phone".

Sometimes I get an error from BitPim and I have to exit and restart BitPim a couple of times to get it to recognize the phone.

Posted by: mjmmusser

Well I just purchased the Futuredial data cable. d/l the drivers. hooked up the phone. changed bitpim to com4 which is the working com port. And all bitpim says is retrieving. for 30 minutes so far.
Do I have to change the connection speed on the phone?? I have it set for the lowest connection speed.
I have bitpim set to Other CDMA phone, Com4, I installed the driver for the LG 1200 because when I set up the driver for the LG VX6000 it kept giving me an error.

Posted by: mjmmusser

I think I may have figured it out. I uninstalled bitpim 7.16 (newest version) and installed 7.13 and it worked fine.

Posted by: pleighto

I just downloaded the bitpim 7.17. I installed and went to open it. Well it says "BITPIM caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7801166c." Do I have to have the hardware hooked up to even start the software? I have the LGVX3200 phone, just no cabling or other software yet.

Posted by: mjmmusser

I just tried bitpim without my phone hooked up and had no error. The error that you are talking about is actually an internal error on your computer, your .dll file is corrupted. The best thing to do is to re-install Bitpim and see if that works. If that doesn't work then try to d/l an earlier version of bitpim and install it.

You do need a cable though with bitpim, and the drivers for the data cable.

The cable I used was the FutureDial cable #19 from radioshack(catalog #17-792). It costs around $21. The drivers were found on the internet by looking through the LG software section on these forums http://www.howardforums.com/forumdi...?s=&forumid=220 or you can pay $45 for them at radioshack.

The problem I had with my phone was actually a bad USB port.

Since then I have had no problems putting new ring tones(in MIDI format) on my phone. I'm still workingon getting the mp3's on there (been busy with other things).

Hope that works out!

Yeah I installed the lower 7.16 instead of 7.17. I also came across a cable for the LG VX3200 on the LG website..hum let us.lge.com but that cable was a serial -to-phone not a usb. That cable I think was also $33.00 USD. I am wondering if any body has this cable and has tried bitpim with it?

Thank you

This is the cable on the radio shack website.
You said they had a cable on the LG website, but it was a serial cable. A serial cable would be much slower than a USB cable. I think I am gonna post a webpage for setting up the VX3200 on the net.

Well, maybe I'm getting closer, but still no cigar.
I have Bitpim 07.16 installed on COM3, I've tried the drivers for the VX6000 and VX1200 (Control panel shows COM3). With either, if I tell Bitpim my phone is "other CDMA", I don't get the option to get phone data. If I tell Bitpim I have the 1200 or 6000, I do get that option, but get an error message when "get phone data" is executed.
Has anyone located a tutorial for downloading ring tones to the VX3200?

edit - I also tried Bitpit 7.13 - same.

Open bitpim, set it to "other cdma", open your file system, right click your file system, select "make sudirectory", name it: user, right click on user, select "make subdirectory", name it: sound, Right click on sound, select "make subdirectory", name it: Ringer,
Right click on ringer, select "new file", a dialog box will pop up, select the midi song that you want to put on your phone (right now I only can figure out how to put midi files on the phone).
There are plenty of places on the net for free midi songs.
The songs will be put in with the ringers that came with your phone. just push "menu" 6,1,1,1-3 on your phone and you will see them.

I want to apologize in advance for sounding so dumb about this--my husband does all the technical stuff on the computers. I have a 3200 and my husband has been trying for 2 days to figure out how to download ringtones to the phone. We bought the Verizon Mobile Office kit (data cable) and used Bitpim and had no luck. Is this cable basically the same as the Radio Shack #19 that you all are referring to? Also, I think my husband used the lastest version of Bitpim. What version should be used? We have MAC OS X and also have Virtual PC. My husband will probably try again using mjmmusser's instructions. The 15 day trial period is almost up and I really want some nice ringtones. Any help (or encouragement-LOL) would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Posted by: mjmmusser

I have never tried any other cable. The Future Dial cable is the one that was recommended for me and I have had no problems with it, so why try another.

Posted by: rosie4040

Thanks for the info mj! It took a while, but my husband was partially successful. He got the midi files to the phone, but now we need to know how to trim them using a MAC.

Posted by: mjmmusser

I use Guitar pro 4, I really don't know anything else because I have always used this to tab out songs for the guitar. Try putting MP3's on the phone. they are alot easier to edit.

Posted by: rosie4040

Does anyone know how much storage memory the 3200 has for ringtones and such? (Or how to find out)

Posted by: deleonl1

I created the directory /user/sound/ringer and inserted a midi file in it, but I don't see it when I go to Ringers on my phone. Is there something I'm forgetting to do? The file size is 36k, is that too big? Does the file name have to be certain way?

Thanks for the help!

Posted by: rosie4040

You need to go to the folder"download/dloadindex" and delete the file "brewRingerIndex.map", then power off your phone and back on again. The phone will now re-write this file with the ringtones in with the masters that come with the phone.

Posted by: mjmmusser

Also I have noticed that filenames present a problem if they are too long.

Posted by: deleonl1

Got it to work! Thanks for the help and thanks for all the information in this thread!

Now I just need to find a good MIDI of Play That Funky Music.

Posted by: rosie4040

I hope I'm not doing anything against the rules by posting this site. Go to www.hamienet.com Click on "Rock and Pop", click on "W", click on "Wild Cherry". It's the only song listed for them. I think you get one download as a guest. After that you have to register, but it's free.
