My contract with att is up in a few months (yay!) and I am planning on going back to sprint. I really like this phone, but I want to know what people that have it think of it.

I heard that some people really hate the phone because it needed a recall or something, but now should be fine.

How is the image quality for the pictures? Right now I have the Nokia 3650 and the picture quality is pretty good.

Please let me know what you think of this phone if you have one.
Thanks!

If you can find a new one with the new Hardware version 201 in it you wont have any problems with the phone. I have had it since it came out in November and have the old version and have never had one problem with it. Not all of the old versions are affected.

I just got the phone- it does have the hardware version 201. Thanks for letting me know that this is not the affected phone version. I have seen that most people who do not like the phone had problems because of defects- Im glad to know that my phone is not one of them. Thanks!

I have the 201... Didn't start having problems for about a month, then all of a sudden it was just like the last. Whatever's screwed up probably burns out after use, so they can't really test for it when they sell them.

Just thought I would add that I have 101 / 1.008 Software and haven't had any issues with what other people have described. My only beef with this phone is the following:

1) Whole # doesn't show up on the outside LCD screen when someone is calling (It scrolls across)

2) If you missed a call, and it is showing the screen that shows who called, the time and date, name, type of #, etc.... it sayd
lMissed Cal
(Voice Call)

It should say

Missed Call
(Voice Call)

So somehow the l at the end got moved in front of the M... nothing big, but just seems like something small that should never be happening. It only does this when the person is in your phone book. If you get a missed call from someone not in your phone book, it says:

Missed Call
(Voice Call)

Also, I text message all the time... and if you send text messages when the hour is at 12, no matter if it is AM or PM, if you look go to your sent folder, it always says that the message were sent at 12:XX AM, it never will show PM when it's on the 12 hour... kinda weird!!! Again, something small but I do notice it all the time.

Anyways, other than that I am really happy with my phone. I have had it since the beg. of December and have had no problems with it what so over. My only other wish is that the speaker phone is full duplex instead of half.... that can get annoying, especially when there is background noise it makes it so you can't talk back and forth very well, works great for listening to voice mail though!

Some other issues I guess, is that if you have a screen saver displayed, it will only show you the time on the screen, it won't show you the time AND the date... I find that annoying.

As far as picture and video quality, I am very impressed! I have no complaints at all with the camera on this phone.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.... hope it helps and good luck!!

I ve had the 201 for almost 2 months and I dont have a single problem with mine...I also have 2 other 101 hardware 5500's with out problems...so it seems like it is the luck of the draw....I get good reception, no redialing, and no or very few dropped calls on all three in my house.

That's weird, because mine shows up all on one screen. Just two lines of it.

That is also weird...I was thinking I would have noticed it before but never did. I checked just now and my phone doesn't do that either!

I haven't been here for a few months but see this is still a hot topic!

I love my phone for the most part. A few very minor things that irritate me, like the options for how you want to write text change depending on what function you are using, but nothing too bad. Far less than other phone's I've had. I haven't had any of the major problems other people seem to have. It seems that there were a few bad batches out there that blackened the name of the phone, but most people I don't think have those problems. If you do, send it back until you get one without them!

Just another person here with the 1.008 software and 101 hardware, and I've had ZERO problems with this phone. I've had it since January and I still love it. It was definately a worthwhile purchase and I plan to have this thing for a long time.

If you have until August, I'd recommend the a680/a700 over the 5500 (assuming you don't need speakerphone).

Here's what's up with Sanyo:
They let a piece of bad hardware in through quality control. At first, everyone doubted that a large quantity of phones were affected. Suddently, a large percentage of people with hardware 01xx are having problems. The problems usually stem from a redialing issue/reception issue. Normally Sanyos are bug-proof and have great reception; if you get a bad 5500, you get a bad phone. I'd recommend this phone, but it's getting late in it's product cycle, with the 5600 on the horizon, and the Samsungs have better RF performance anyway.

So, if you don't need the speakerphone, I'd recommend the a680 ($300, out now), or the a700 ($400, out within a month or so).

The silver was distributed by Sprint while the original Blue 5500 problems were being worked out. That's the story they told me when we got them in.

When you buy one, you MUST check it in-store to make sure that you have Hardware version 0201 or greater. Hardware 01XX is defective. If they gave you a defective phone, demand a replacement.
